Help So I e-mailed HTC With my problems. Response:

First off I emailed HTC and asked two questions.

Question 1 was:

So if I am in my car using an auxiliary cable and the phone rings, I have to unmount and unplug my phone. This is ridiculous! The mic will not function while an auxiliary cable is logged in. This is my 3rd model of Android phones and this has never been an issue. Is this an issue or working as intended and is there a cheap solution?

Question 2:

I woke up Wednesday morning with all of my text messages deleted. I am not using any third party apps at all. I haven't taken the time to customize my phone yet. I also do NOT have the sense ability to purge messages selected. I use zero home replacement apps and I am using stock text messaging. Is there a work around for this issue? I know it's a known issue with the Eris and Desire, but not this phone.

The reply I got was:

I understand that you have some questions about the HTC Thunderbolt.

Dear Thomas Walters,

I understand that you have some questions about the HTC Thunderbolt.

Thomas, we have had some reports of the headset issue you discribed and we have found that this issue happens when using an incompatible or non-HTC headset.

As for your text message issue. There have been no official reports of a text messageing issue on the HTC Thunderbolt. However I recommend that you restart your phone. You can do this by pushing and holding the power button and then taping restart. I would also recommend that you contact Verizon to see if this may be an issue that they are aware of.

We do apologize Thomas, for any inconvenience that this issue has caused you.

Now, I will keep the phone. I love the phone. I found a solution to my mic problem. But this bothers me as a response. First of all they don't offer a cable with a line in mic. In fact, they are a bit of a pain to find. I did find one by Dynex at bestbuy.com but...well..it sucks for the listener. Not horribly, but just enough to be annoying. I will just root my phone when someone there fixes it and am going to post this request now. And regarding my (and a few others) with the text messaging thing, I called Verizon. They recorded the issue and said it is likely to be device specific. They have hardly any complaints of this and told me to see if it does it again and they will just send me a new phone. I am okay with that, but HTC customer service so far is a bit ridiculous. I am not paid to be informed, they are!

Like I said, I am keeping the phone....it is an AWESOME phone even coming from the X. But this might stall someone else from getting it!

Yea the "mic" thing annoys the crap out of me, you can put it in speaker phone and it will work, but it doesn't come through the aux port. It will just play it on the phones speaker.

If I can ask what does the line in mic do? Is is a typical male to male aux cord with a button you press for mic?

something like this

Amazon.com: New Headset Hands Free 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone for Apple iPod Touch iTouch 2 3 4 th Gen iPhone 2 3g 3g 4g gen generation: Electronics

or

Amazon.com: Monster iSoniTalk Microphone Headphone Adapter for iPhone - Microphone with Headphone Jack: Electronics

it has a button to hang up but not necessary to talk....it's simply an auxiliary cable with a microphine in the cable itself...like headphones that typically come with flip phones.

I have a Dynex cable from bestbuy.com but... I just order the Monster cable. I hear they are great for mic quality from the iPhone cultists. So maybe they are an answer for the Android community! And for 5 bucks meh, cheap solution.

Hope this helps!

Glad you got a response from HTC. Unfortunately, no headway with your text issue. Other people experiencing that problem should contact HTC and make them aware.

From the way it sounds, they need to contact Verizon and let Verizon contact HTC. I did my part!

Texting issue, I had that happen to me on my OG Droid about 3 months after owning it, but it never did it again...

It's what prompted me to download SMS Backup & Restore.

Okay so I had re-emailed HTC further explaining the issue. Now who wants to laugh at this response:

Thank you for your response.

Thomas, the Android 2.2 ROM version includes an option feature to delete messages one at a time from a thread once the message count reaches a user-specified number.

In some rare circumstances this feature may present an issue that results in inbox messages being deleted without warning.

HTC is aware of this issue and is currently working on a resolution that will be included in a future update. In the meantime, it is recommended that you use a backup tool from the market (Simply SMS Backup).

As for the microphone not working when you get a call while your device is in a car dock, hooked to an auxiliary cable to play music, we do not at this time have a car dock that is compatible with the Thunderbolt. We cannot guarantee that our devices will function properly while being used with these accessories. The only thing that I could recommend would be to just use the auxiliary cable plugged directly into your Thunderbolt then into the AUX jack in your vehicle.

I do apologize Thomas, for any and all of the inconvenience that this may cause you.

Do they even know how the phone works....

Seriously, those don't even look like responses from HTC. They sound like some outsourced helpdesk canned responses. I have a trick when I get support like that (crappy). I forward their support letter to their COO, CEO, CFO, BOD, and a few news outlets, engadget, phandroid, etc.

Then just sit back and wait. It won't take long, but you will get a real response soon.

so you want the mic to be on at all times when you get a call when the aux port is used?

what abt for people that use a wired headset that has a mic built in and they keep there phone in the pocket? The person they are talking to will here the mic from the headset and the phones mic

This is how it worked on my OG Droid, Droid X, and my wife's Droid 2. As well as with an old LG enV

I just wonder if the car dock app has this feature for Motorola...has something special implemented to provide this
