programs and settings such as Handscent, etc, or will the backup do that for me? (trying to see how much time to set aside)

I assume contacts will resync from the cloud?

Seriously considering doing it, but am on call this weekend, so will probably wait until next week so I am not up the creek without a phone this weekend.

Was ok with 2.1, until I started finding apps that need 2.2 to run.

I didn't loose anything from stock 2.1 to voodoo 2.2 with Superclean 2.9. I didn't wipe data or cache in any of the processes. (I know people say to do it but I had the original file if it messed up) but had no problems. NO battery problems no data loss nothing bad at all. Just a FYI. I would say total time 1 hour and you should be good.

Thanks! Did you use a one click or something like this method? [WALKTHROUGHS 3/9/11] Rooting, Clockwork, Voodoo, Froyo and Custom ROMs, Battery, etc - xda-developers

I used this method. http://androidforums.com/fascinate-...-rooting-fascinate-regardless-os-version.html Then load superclean 2.9 on the phones sd card and boot into recovery and pick your zip file. I went through a ton of different roms to get to 2.9 but I would guess it should work just to jump straight to sc2.9

And if it messes up you know how to use odin so all you have to do is push the original 2.1 or the froyo leak 2.2.tar to your phone through odin you will have a reset phone with new software (but this method will erase everything) it is a last resort.

I just read that post you linked to. Just follow the directions it is just written differently
