So Is Anyone Happy?

AAEBoiler

Newbie
I'm about to upgrade my phones (wife too) from old HTC Eris' and am seriously looking at the Galaxy Nexus (or the RAZR). I'm leaning towards the Nexus as it already has 4.0 and I have no idea when the RAZR will get the upgrade.

I thought I'd come over here to see what people think and all I see is complaints. Is that simply because that's what people primarily do on boards - they complain about the problems rather than gush about the good things?

So, is there anything good about the phone? Coming from a 2-year old phone with 3-year old technology, I'm sure that either choice will be better but is anyone happy with the Nexus?

Thanks!

I upgraded from the Thunderbolt, and have been perfectly happy with the Nexus. I haven't had any issues at all, so that obviously helps. Not everyone gets a perfectly working device, so remember that sometimes, you get something with an issue.

I wrote up a little blurb about it at purchase, but between the two, you'll be fine with either device.

The RAZR has 8MP camera vs 5MP. However, I've had no problems with my camera, surely not anywhere close as "horrible" as people have said. Sure if you shoot a million frames in a row while spinning in circles, it won't be in focus. But for average pictures, it's been more than fine. The RAZR does not have a removable battery, so if yours ever gets worn before you decide on another phone, you're kinda...stuck. There's the RAZR MAXX coming though, which should be better on battery life. The screen on the Nexus is amazing compared to most others. And it comes with ICS stock, with no extra bloatware. Can't say that to the RAZR. Even when it DOES get ICS, you'll still have Moto and Verizon stuff on it. Some people, that's an issue.

But as you said, most people have no problem running to a board to complain, but for every complaint, there are countless people like myself who have had zero problems, and love the phone.

My own personal reason for really going with the Nexus over the RAZR? I liked how it feels in my hand better. Not to make a pun of this, but the RAZR felt more edgy/sharper in my hand than the Nexus.

Also, don't forget about the Rezound. Another great phone, with a great screen, feels very solid due to it's weight, and a lot of people love Sense. Might be worth a look :)

I've had the phone for a week now. I personally love everything about it. The screen is awesome. The feel of the phone in the hand is very nice. I was a skeptical at first about not having a micro-SD but have found it to be easier to manage. Coming from a Droid X it is much faster. The new software is much better but improved on by custom ROM's. The biggest complaint seems to be battery life but for the last few days I get about 10 hours out of it. That's with a couple hours of Google music and checking messages.

I looked at the Razr but didnt like how thin it was. Plus all the unnecessary crap Moto throws in the software sucks.

I'm the type of person that can find fault in anything (self included ;-)). That said, this phone has quirks about it that I'd like to see fixed but I'd say I'm 95-99% happy with the phone.

I work in an office where there are at least five people I'm close with that have the phone and are also very happy with it. Not to cause any confusion but I hear good things about the RAZR too. The difference for me is having a stock Android experience > all.

Either way I think you will be happy - both phones are pretty awesome!
good luck

Other than some signal problems (Should be addressed within the next few weeks, god willing) and a less than stellar camera, its an awesome phone. I came from the razr to the Nexus and Im very happy. For something that works well, looks good and decent build, than the Razr is perfect. Other than that, the Razr takes better low light pictures(Nexus sucks with that) but the Nexus actually looks SIGNIFICANTLY better in well lit areas. And this is coming from someone who takes 15 minutes setting up the perfect picture :P

Although the Nexus just FEELS like a big step up. That might be ICS or simply the phone itself. But everything feels amazingly zippy. I think Google did AMAZING with ICS. Its the first time that I can honestly recommend an android device to the more casual market. Its still pretty complicated at first, but its 1000x more responsive and feels like a worthy competitor to the Iphone. Or at least a worthy alternative for the casual market.

I love android and have loved all previous version but ICS is honestly a HUGE step up in being stable.

Either way, both phones are AWESOME and I have NO regrets with returning the Razr. I just feel guilty since it was a great device and didn't really need to return for anything other than I wanted something else.

EDIT: 600th post!!!!

Extremely happy and literally cannot think of any issues off-hand.

edit: I thought of one. There is something different about the Bluetooth in ICS. Apps need to be updated to handle it better - BeyondPod did not work right with Bluetooth for me. However, I'm using Doggcatcher now for podcasts and it works great.

It's not perfect, no phone is. But there is no other phone I would even consider having. :) I love the size/shape, I love ICS, I love having NFC, I love that it's a Nexus phone. And yeah, people generally only go to a forum when they have a problem.

I switched from the RAZR to the Nexus, and am so happy that I made that decision. This phone is amazing. I read all the horror stories about it, but I have not had a single problem. The phone is great!! Seriously better than the RAZR was. In fact, I had data issues with the RAZR, but I have had NONE with the Nexus!

I can tell you if you're coming from an Eris you'll be blown away by this phone here is my android phone history

Droid, Eris, Incredible, EVO, Transform, Fascinate, Thunderbolt , Rezound and Galaxy Nexus

And the Nexus is by far the best out of all them IMO ... You'll notice in any board when I new phone comes out that it's all people complaining or having trouble . The majority of people who aren't having problems aren't coming to boards because they have no need to.. I got a dud Nexus at first exchanged it and things have been amazing . Is the phone perfect ?? nope but no phone is every phone has at least one issue but honestly I have no major issues with this phone everything is good to great on it nothing is bad .

My wife replaced her Eris with the Galaxy Nexus and loves it! I couldn't tell you the number of times she was ready to smash her Droid Eris in pieces but just get the Nexus, you won't regret it. I too have the Galaxy Nexus and haven't had any issues. My only gripe was the camera and low light pictures. Downloaded Camera Zoom FX and that helped a lot! I love ICS and you will too!

Are you still a huge fan of Sense? If so, take a good look at the Rezound. It seems like a keeper in terms of development and that it also has an unlocked bootloader.
The Nexus certainly has issues; any new device running a brand new version of Android will (just look at the Xoom). But, I think of all the phones on Verizon RIGHT NOW, the Nexus is the best. The Razr and Rezound are very close seconds. Take a look at all of em and decide what you want.

Came from the Droid X. Was happy with it, am happy with the Nexus.

I have minor gripes about the battery - but I won't be thrilled until I get a true 24 hour battery (regardless of coverage/usage/etc.) I know there are several threads around that discuss it, but for the sake of this thread I get between 5 and 12 hours depending on usage. Although today has me on track for closer to 18 if the sensor is tracking accurately.

The camera had a learning curve, but now that I figured it out (hold to focus was the key for me) I'm pleased with it for a mobile phone. I would expect more if it were just a camera, but it's not.

One thing I would say is that if you don't have unlimited data, get the thing on wifi before you do your account migration, those 20 or 30 minutes sucked down like 500megs on my phone. Then did it all over again after I unlocked the boot-loader, or maybe it was the rooting, I forget.

My one complaint - available car docks so far suck. Dunno if the RAZR or Rezound is better, but I'm very unhappy with my current choices on the nexus.

This is my fourth and best Android phone. I had concerns about the permanent Google Search bar and the missing long press voice search. Those have been taken care with custom ROMs to say the least. I believe in the Nexus line now. I will only buy the Nexus line from now on.

Every phone will have issues. I'm happy with mine --- note that I am coming off 18 months with a BB storm 1, so how can I complain, except that I can do TOO MUCH with the galaxy nexus that I can't get off it to get anything else done...

mine has a few issues:
-radio not as good as the one on BB or my GF's LG ally (when comparing 3G dBm), however it seems to be getting better.
-battery life is sufficient, but not enough for a day of heavy use (stock battery).
-speakerphone does not sound good on phone calls (it is noisy and clips out), however it is either getting better or I am getting used to it b/c doesn't bother me as much anymore. Music and video, the speaker sounds fine, maybe a little quiet.

Pros:
-fast 4G
-ICS rocks
-good apps
-fun to tinker with

I think i can easily put up with this phone for a couple years, and probably much longer as I usually like to hold out and watch the market)... by then smartphones will probably be so fast it wont matter what you choose.. all the choices will be in software differences...

<---- Ecstatic with my Nexus! :D

Coming from an OG Droid, this is a quantum move up in phone. Naturally, it's a new technology and a new OS, so there will be expected growing pains. All in all, though, you couldn't pry this phone out of my hands. It'll take a heck of a device to sway me away in the months to come.

I'm happy, having gone from Blackberry, Droid, Incredible, iPhone, and Nexus. First, it's a Nexus. Second, because of the first, developers aren't in a losing battle against stingy OEMs

Absolutely loving the Gnex. I came from the Tbolt, so I knew what to expect for battery life. I've not had any of the issues some seem to be experiencing and love the look and feel (especially weight wise). I get fantastic photos with the stock camera, great reception, strong LTE signal, and ICS is a great OS improvement.

I'm still happy with mine, and nothing I've seen coming up makes me regret my choice. I upgraded from the original Motorola Droid (the only stock Android phone Moto ever made for Verizon) and I love the Nexus.

After this weekend, when I used the Skype App for a 2nd time, and used Google Wallet for the first time, I'm even more happy with it.

There's also a topic for people who are happy with their Nexus and planning to keep it.

Also came from the Droid X and I am very satisfied with the Nexus. Amazing screen, lte works well at my house, and I love the dual core. Couldn't drag and drop high quality videos on the DX now almost all of my videos work on the Nexus without conversion. Since I never turn off LTE, battery life is worse than the DX. I have great phone reception, on par with the DX which is a big compliment. Don't forget to check out the developer support of the Nexus, there are so many great roms and cm9 isn't even out yet. Camera wise I believe nexus is middle of the pack (better than razr, worse than rezound).
