I want to root my phone but I dont know which way to do it... is there upsides or down sides to any of them or is there a better one... PLEASE HELP!!!

Alright I need help now... so I just used the captivate root on the link in the faq on teh top, I then ran clockwork and then backedup. after the backup I installed cognition rom, when it installed that I lost all my data... so i tried to perform a restore using rom manager and now it just keeps rebooting to the boot selection screen. can anyone help me!
You can try Odin but it wont get you your data back if it's gone.

If you were just trying to root, you shouldn't have gone at it with a bulldozer and a cannon. It's not necessary to put on a hacked non-stock ROM just to get root. You went about it the hard way changing up a lot more stuff than necessary and so it increased the risks of something going wrong.
