Why do manufactures make so many different phones?

Looking at gsmarena, Samsung has released 24 android phones in 2013. In just 2013.

Why are they making so many different phones?
Maybe a few sizes. And GSM/cdma.
But 24 in 2013.

Why are they making so many different phones?
Maybe a few sizes. And GSM/cdma.
But 24 in 2013.
Why?

They release a phone like the S3 and then make variations of it for various carriers and repeat this for most of their releases. They also have to make both a high end version and a low end version so it accessible to more people. All of this results in the releasing all of those phones.

Everyone has a different price range when it comes to buying phones so making low end and high end phones make sense also each carrier wants each model to seem unique to them. Also we as consumers buy the phones lol....
They wouldn't make them if the demand wasn't there.

But its all about the freedom of choice.

Some can't afford the top end device like the s4 as well as some would rather have a smaller device rather than a big phone that some simply can't afford to buy.

If we didn't have the freedom of choice, we might as well jump on the Apple bandwagon

Can imagine if Apple made clothing. The iJacket, only one style, and only two sizes, small and medium.

But its all about the freedom of choice.

But coats are like that, as are jackets, etc. etc., even when they come from one company. Would you want all your clothing to be exactly the same as everyone else's, everyone wearing the same stuff and no choice? e.g. Cultural Revolution China's blue Mao suit. All have four symmetrical pockets, five button fastening to the neck, no zips, no hoods, no belts, and everyone's happy.

Gingerbread? Samsung doesn't make any Gingerbread 2.3 phones now. And if you did buy a Samsung phone with Gingerbread recently, it's old stock. What phone have you got? You're not referring to any carrier bloatware are you, e.g. Facebook, NFL, NASCAR and the like. Because that's not Samsung or Gingerbread, that's the carrier done that.

All the phones on that list, which was posted in June, are 4.x i.e. Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean, and now KitKat. One of the changes made were that some of the apps now come from Play rather than being built into the OS ("redundant apps"). One thing about that list, it shows Samsung's global line-up, not all of which are available in all countries and regions. In fact there's a few more than that.

There's three different versions of the S4 for China alone, same with the Note 2 and 3. Because China has three carriers, and each one uses their own 3G/4G technology. Dual SIM phones like the Galaxy Win are very popular in China and Asia, that one is not sold in the US or Europe. There's the Galaxy Mega, which looks very much like a Note, but it's about half the price, and doesn't have the S-pen stylus. That's primarily for Asia, where people tend to like large screened phones, but might not be rich enough to afford an unsubsidised Note 2. So it's really down to different phones for different markets, that's what Samsung does. Put it this way, you certainly won't find all of those Samsungs at your local Verizon or AT&T store, might be about a quarter or a third, if that. They'll only be one S4, one Note 2, and no dual SIM phones. Go to a China Mobile store, and many of the Samsungs are dual SIM.

Apple on the other hand only makes a couple of phones, the iPhone 5C and 5S. They handle the global market differently. In the US and western Europe, they're mostly carrier subsidised and tend to be very popular. In many emerging markets like China and India, where people tend to be comparatively poor as a whole and phones are not subsidised. They play the luxury game and basically pretend they're Gucci or Prada. iPhone 5S is $1,000 here in China. I've already covered if Apple were to make jackets...LOL...except to say, the iJacket in the US and UK would be a reasonable price and many people can afford them. But in China the same iJacket is an expensive luxury, but is popular with the well monied brand whore types, along with Gucci and Prada.

If you buy a phone with Gingerbread on it, you have bought an old phone. Google is trying to put Gingerbread behind them. Jellybean and now Kitkat have left Gingerbread in the dust.

Yup definitely old stock. Most likely was sat in Vodafone's warehouse or stockroom for almost two years. They still have to sell it though, they can't do anything else with it.

The Galaxy Ace was a budget low-specced phone when it came out in 2011. Friend of mine had an Ace, he's had two phones since.
