So most of you are NOT using a pattern lock or other security on your phone?

I'm seeing so many people complaining about the new lock screen that it seems that many Droid owners aren't using a pattern lock to secure their phone.

This really surprises me...the phone contains access to all your email, contacts, calendar, and any other personal data you may have placed on it, and a large percentage of you aren't even using the basic security provided by the pattern lock?

Or is it that many people don't know the pattern lock exists?

I just can't imagine having a phone like this that isn't secured to whatever extent is available.
 
yeah, same here dude, i have mine on all the time!
and change it atleast every week, if people dont have it, then they could get in big trouble, like 1000 dollar bill and all your info is out to the public, pretty scary
 
Mine's protected by Mr. Smith, and Mr Wesson. :) Naa, I use the pattern lock and have wavesecure installed. I put their site's link on my wife's iPhone. That way if we're out on the town and for some dumb ass reason I'm parted with my phone we can either locate it on the site, or remote wipe it.

i may do that as a backup plan. but really stealing a verizon phone is just stupid cause once i report it stolen they can not activate it so it's useless. as far as sensative information i don't keep my credit card number on there that would just be silly lol.
 
Tried the lock pattern screen for a few hours when I first got the DROID. I decided, albeit cool, it was unnecessary for me. YMMV
 
I use the pattern lock and I have WaveSecure installed (very cool app). Also, if someone touches my phone, I'll cut them.

It's also pretty easy to figure out the pattern if you look at the screen when it's off, unless you've got the driest skin on the planet. I've gotten into the habit of wiping it on my shirt before I put it back in the holster. I'm an oily bastard..... :rolleyes:
 
Heh I've been meaning to try it out but this thread has inspired me to do so. And, well, goodbye ugly tab lockscreen, hello secure draw pattern :)
 
I've been using it. I like that they put the date on it since the OTA update.

I wish there was still the option to swipe and turn the sounds off w/o unlocking the phone :(
 
I don't really see the point, but I'm sure that's because I'm not in the demographic it's made for. The most sensitive info in my phone would probably be stored passwords to a few websites. I don't have a ton of high security work documents or high-profile business clients in my contacts or anything, if someone steals my phone and wants to calls my dad or an old friend from school...have fun! My phone is almost entirely in my pocket or at my desk while I work. I can imagine almost no scenario where the phone might be discreetly stolen and I wouldn't realize it and have it deactivated within minutes.

But again, I fully realize that I'm not the kinda person it's made for. And it's not like it's an overly complicated, time-consuming process for people like me to look at with bewilderment. So if you use it, great!
 
This may be irrational, but the reason I don't use the pattern unlock is because you don't have to swipe to get to it. This is especially important since the emergency dial is there and could be accidentally clicked. Honestly, I am surprised that this doesn't bother more people.

The way *that other* smartphone does it is perfect: Slide to unlock the phone, then if password is enabled, you can enter it or dial an emergency AFTER the slide.

That said.. it does bother me to not have my phone locked.
 
If you're not using the pattern lock 'cause you're afraid you might hit the emergency dial, don't worry. All that does is bring up the dialer...it doesn't dial 911 automatically. It's an admittedly broad definition of "emergency" since you could use it to dial your girlfriend, or maybe Sears. ;)

I get those who say "OK - there's nothing on my phone I feel I need to make private - if someone gets my phone I'm OK w/them accessing all of my email/contacts/calendar, etc., until I can call VZW and tell them to kill my service."

The one's I don't get are the "Oh I'll never lose my phone or have it get stolen." There's a surety about the future that doesn't work for me. "Stuff" as they say, happens. Maybe more to me than others... ;)
 
I used to always have a pattern set on mine, but I always reach for my phone like every 5 minutes and I was getting sick of doing the pattern just to view a text and stuff. So I have stopped using it.
 
yea i also reach for my phone all the time. don't wanna do a pattern every time just to skip a song or something. but i did have it on before the update cuz i hated the default unlock screen. after the update though, the default unlock screen is much better now so i turned off the pattern.
 
So you guys have to unlock the phone anyway w/the standard unlock screen, right?Minimum one swipe left-to-right every time.

So why not create a relatively simple pattern swipe - same effort, security added. :D

Really, who among us hasn't had a 2am emergency for some craftsman tools?
