So Moto hasn't even started Dev on ICS for us?

Ok, so if I am understanding this correctly, Motorola is saying that they haven't even started development on the ICS upgrades for us according to this:

Really??
Not, not really. They're working on it and the client [Verizon] doesn't want any to release any announcements about future updates.

And notice how the XT910 (the GSM verizon of the Razr) is getting it in Quarter 2. So yes, they're working on it.

Dev section on xda has a leaked 4.0.1 test keys fast boot file for the Verizon razr. It can't be flashed to a locked bootloader. Doesn't do much good but it was dated back in December. So they've been working on this for awhile. I think we'll end up getting the update before the 3rd quarter. But that's just my opinion.

I had read this previously, which gave me hope that it was further along than moto is saying. So, I have to wonder why would moto make it seem like it will take longer because that will only server to upset customers.

Because Verizon are jerks about keeping customers informed about the progress of updates. Look at the list, all the current Verizon devices are all listed as in Evaluation and Planning, while the global versions and parallel models on other carriers are in development and have expected delivery date. Verizon just doesn't want us to know anything.

Take it for what you will but I am hearing from a close family member (that has a significant position at Verizon) that Verizon has already received, tested and rejected two ICS builds for the Razr/Maxx. Moto is working on it for sure. Moto simply can not say anything about it. You have to remember that Moto has a significant deal in place that puts them at the mercy of Verizon. Hence the poor info, locked bootloaders, constant releases of similar devices and so on. Until that deal is up ( which I am being told will last thru 2014) we are going to see this trend from Motorola concerning devices made for Verizon. The Xoom wifi has had ICS for a several weeks now and the Verizon Xoom has yet to even get a hint as to when its going to get ICS.

Yea...there are ICS leaks of the RAZR, Verizon and international version...so they are working on it.

Because if they said it would come out very soon and it took them longer than initially expected customers would be even more upset, right now just Android and Forum geeks are getting impatient, not the average consumer.

Yea, I get that. But to post something saying essentially, "we aren't even close and we have no idea when we will be" is just frustrating to an entirely new level. I know Verizon likes to be very Apple-Like with releasing information, but THIS kind of info will infuriate people. Better to say nothing than say what they are saying.

All that said, we'll probably see it much sooner than later based on what others are saying, my point only being that it's really not good customer service to put this kind of stuff out. I guess that's really my only point.

I was thinking about this over the weekend. We're all panting for ICS, but look at how many phones it's shipped on so far. What is it, one? Two? It's about 0.004% of the market. I'm wondering if it's ready for primetime.

I'd rather have a phone that works, really works, solid as a rock, than the cutting-edge, bleeding-edge nightmare of the latest and greatest hot off the presses.

Sure, I'll take ICS when it comes. But in the meantime, this is a damn good phone.

And that one phone has buckets of issues.

Well rumours abound today that SGS2 is getting ICS on March 15th or near or around that date. HTC Sensation XE is also rumoured to receive it at the end of March. So it would be nice to know that Motorola are close and we'll get it very soon after Samsung and HTC.

Sans the very random (and less) data drops that last a minute or less, I am 100% happy with the 2.3.6 with root, so not seeing the need for ICS. Nice when it happens, but if it kills root, I aint goin' to it anyway.

I am more interested with ICS for 7" tablets like my View, since does not use the space wasting fixed nav buttons on devices with capactive buttons. I never went to Honeycomb on the View, since do not want to lose the space. Gingerbread works fine on the View.

As long as my videos, comics, web and game emulators play smooth, I am good with Gingerbread :)

It won't kill root if you use ota root keeper before accepting the upgrade.

Just read news today that HTC have released ICS 4.0 for their Sensation XE handset with customers in European countries reporting it has arrived.

Wonder how long for Motorola?

Per a Verizon press release dated 06 March 2012, the RAZR along with about a dozen other devices are scheduled for an ICS update this year. I will post a link in my next post as forum rules won't allow a link in my first post.

I find this article interesting.

That is a long list of what I would consider extremely minor issues (with a couple of exceptions - signals, inability to connect, etc) most of which "may occur" and none of which I have actually seen.
Some items may be out of order in my folder. Is that serious?
Pictures taken with the front facing camera MAY not have jpg extension when emailed. Is that serious?

If you look at every other list of bug fixes in every other update released for every other phone, they always include a long list of minor fixes.

Let's not pretend that the Galaxy Nexus or ICS is laden with problems or loaded with bugs. Its not. The vast majority of complaints are regarding reception/signal and battery life. Reception is expected to be fixed in the next update and battery life is a function of a HUGE HD screen and 4G (and to some extent probably connection issues), as well as some mis-behaving apps syncing too much or too often.
