...I'm still insecure if I am able to root my Samsung Galaxy S2. I've read tons of texts but I'm still confused about what Kernel actually is and how things generally work.

I have a carrier locked S2 (contract):

GT-I9100

4.1.2 JellyBean

I9100XXLS8

3.0.31-889555
dpi@DELL228 #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31
KST 2013

JZO54K.I9100XWLSD

I've seen web-sites warning to not try certain methods if a phone is carrier locked. Am I able to root my phone while locked? What files do I need? What guide? How do I install custom ROMs afterwards?

I'd be greatly thankful if an experienced person could answer these questions.

Thank You in advance.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Misce! :)

This is the only guide you need to read when it comes to rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2. It is designed for absolute beginners with step-by-step instructions, videos and explanations of all procedures and terminology...

Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide

Just grab yourself a drink and read through posts #1 and #2 as everything you need to know is contained in them.

N.B. Rooting does not unlock your phone.

Oh, could someone recommend me a good ROM - stable and stylish/practical? I'm new to this and have no idea which ROM I should try.
