But has anyone actually had problems with their EVO because of task killers. I have one but I will uninstall it if it's going to cause lots problems later on the down the line. Mine didn't save me that much juice anyway. My battery saver app did a lot more than the task killer.
 
I had some issues with ATK. When I would unlock the screen, there wouldn't be any weather on the Time/Weather widget on the home screen. Few other minor issues too....

Switched to Task Manager (which allows you to set apps to ignore) and the phone has been rock solid ever since. I did have a few issues involving the Mario Live wallpaper but, was not sure if it was the wallpaper or Task Manager. I had Mario set to be ignored but, something was buggy occasionally on unlock. Removed Mario.

Since switching to Task Manager, my battery life easily doubled, at least.

Just get System Panel. It will tell you everything you need to know without messing with the phone. I got the paid version and it is awesome. The phone should come with system panel right out of the box.

Yes, i removed mine after my notifications failed to alert me. It really didn't improve much performance or battery wise, and was more of a waste of time killing the same apps over and over then anything else. After i uninstalled ATK, rebooted, my notifications have been working fine since.
 
I use it to kill apps i've installed, not android system stuff. No problems so far. Between killing tasks and disabling the the "enable always on mobile data" i seriously went from charging all the time with 6 hrs of useage to 30+ hrs on a full charge. It's unbelievable.
 
Never once had an issue with ATK that wasn't due to user error in killing the wrong stuff. Now that I have the right set of apps on ignore, it works flawlessly and have been running strong for over 138 hours with no hiccups and memory always being around the same as a fresh boot :)

what i dont understand is why peeps use Task Killer in the first place, when you can kill the apps in the Android system

Navigating to the android running apps menu is a major pain...and you can set the task killer to automatically kill everything on a schedule, and setup an 'ignore' list to let some apps keep running.

I had it set this way, but honestly, my phone runs better without atk installed.
 
I have never had one on my EVO but I used one for the first month I had my Hero. Random things just started happening including notifications missing for texts and voicemails, keeping my phone awake, emails not sending, and a few other weird issues that kept coming back after hard resets. Finally did a hard reset and installed only the Task Killer and everything started happening again so I did a final hard reset and installed everything but the Task Killer and my phone ran perfectly from then on. Not everyone has the same experience with a Task Killer though.... I know people who swear by them
 
There have been numerous reports of them sending the phone into a continuous reboot cycle.

I suppose they don't do harm if you really - I mean REALLY - know what you're doing. I wouldn't suggest them to the average user... and most advanced users choose not to use them because they're unnecessary, IMO.
 
I use ATK because it frees up so much more memory, and my phone runs smoother with it. I have never had a problem recieving any notifications, and alarms work fine.
 
I use ATK. You need to know which processes to ignore, otherwise you'll get some weird results. For instance, if you use HTC's calendar widget, which I do, and you kill the Stocks app, it'll reset the calendar widget and reload the data... kind of weird how that works. Also, if you kill the Flickr process, it'll make the UI reload. Sense is so deep within the OS that killing certain Sense apps causes weird things to happen like that.

In my own personal experience, not using a task killer makes my phone chunky after opening a bunch of apps. I've never seen the OS unload anything after a while, but then again I kill tasks as soon as I'm done using them.

None of this would be needed if all apps had a Menu->Exit option that actually releases all resources and closes the process. Some apps do have that option and they actually do close their process (using ATK you can check :) )

Well I notice a difference when I go from 92M of free virtual memory to 220M. Thats why I used Advanced Task Killer. I'd be willing to try another Task Manager if I started getting problems, but I didn't have any problems using it on the Hero and I haven't seen any problems on the EVO yet.

I had all the com entries set to ignore too but my notifications still failed. That was the biggest problem i had with ATK. Any idea what process causes this? I only ran it for 2 days, thinking maybe i was missing out on some performance or something. I saw the amount of available memory increase, but my resources weren't a problem so my phn runs the same speed-wise with or without the ATK. Even after i set some processes to ignore (com entries), they'd still show back up when opening ATK and i'd select ignore again. Ultimately i removed it due to notification failures, performance-wise there was no difference, ATK was just another app for me to monitor and used up my disk space.
 
I've had zero issues with ATK. Then again, I set up a list manually to be killed, not an automated one. It's common sense, really.
 
I decided to try ATK to see if I could get that damn Gtalk to stop running. I shut it off repeatedly using the Running Services widget only to find that later it's running again.

However, right now after 3 hours use since unplugging i'm at 88% battery life left. Most of the first 10% of that was from me constantly looking at my battery usage! (went from 100% to 89% while continually checking ATK, Battery, Running Services, etc. and when I just left it alone for like 90 mins the battery went from 89% to 88%.)

I can see now that IF I leave the phone alone and just use it like I did my previous phone (basically it just sat there waiting from someone to call me) then I could easily get a full day's life out of it. But, the phone is just TOO MUCH FUN! to just sit there. And THAT is why the battery life goes quickly.

I've never had any issues with notifications, what kind of notifications are you missing? I get all of my notifications (SMS, Missed Calls, Gmail).

Agreed, that's how I came about with my ignore list... I set the ATK security to Low to show all running apps. I then ignored the ones that are essential for the phone to work properly.

No point of the EVO having that huge gorgeous screen if you're not going to fiddle with it :)
 
I have no issues with my task killer, all notifications and everything come through. Never had any phone reboots.

I'm using Advanced Task Killer by the developer of ReChild(green android with blue X Icon in market)

My settings:
Auto start checked
Auto kill level: aggressive
Auto kill frequency: half hour
Security: High

Also have the Advanced Task Killer unchecked in the list of apps obviously so it doesn't kill itself.
