Root So what custom recovery should I use

I have heard a lot not to use rom mamanger but does that include Clockworkmod recovery.

I started with cwm and did not have any problem. I got 4ext as I heard that it was very good and so far I like it. The latest RC touch works fine.

Is there a real difference, what is the best (pro/cons) of different.

So far I have heard of cwm, 4ext and amonra.

thanks

4ext is the favourite around here these days. I used amonra for a long time with no problems. I think i'm right in saying that 4ext can restore CWM backups aswell? (sure Hadron will know). If using CWM, then 2.5.0.7 is the most stable.

Yes, 4Ext can restore CWM backups.

4Ext seems better if you want to use recovery for sd partitions. It can check partition alignment, which is the thing that other recoveries typically fail on if you use them to partition cards. I think it's feature list is probably a bit more comprehensive than CWM 2.5.0.7 these days.

CWM 2.5.0.7 can flash very old zips, using the older scripting language, which I don't think 4Ext does (neither do more recent CWMs). I'd say that's its one advantage. I never had any problem with it, but I vaguely remember SUroot having something which he thought was CWM messing up.

The problems with ROM Manager are to do with how ROM Manager works, not with the older CWM per se. Newer CWMs are less stable on the Desire though.

thanks guys. I did a backup once with cwm and restored using 4ext and also have to say now that it was mentioned I did notice that 4ext has a lot more options the cwm.

I guess that settles it then.
Thanks
