Help So What Did ATT do With My Phone???

I am not due an upgrade till June 2nd. I updated my Captivate through Mini-Kies the day Gingerbread came out. Since then its been the phone from hell.

Sporadically I have had unlock issue where I would have a screen, but either it appeared to freeze, or the touchpad went to sleep and never returned. Do a bettery pull, and I'd be all set for a few days.

Finally I did a reset through the dialer(can't remember the code#), but it wwiped all my stuff- which I knew would happen anyway. I'd get to the setup phone and account sections, and touchpad always worked. At that point I thought I'd had it narrowed down to a wallpaper proggie- but guess not.

It happened again and I called ATT- they had me do the reset through recovery. I've now done this 6 times. Last week I thought the flex cable to the board was flaky, but reset it and I've been ok since. The last two days- I would hit unlock, and get no response, but if I tried five minutes later- I'd be ok. So now I am thinking that something else is running, or I have a software problem.

I took phone to the ATT Device Support Center- and asked if they had ability to flash back to Froyo- which was stock on my refurb. They agreed to do it, but had me sign a waiver in case it bricked. It was only a real slight chance they said. Well- my number must have been up. He come out an hour later and said sorry- but it won't get past the S screen, and eventually goes black. I asked him if bootloaders were changed and I just got a blank stare. I said at this point I am dead- and asked him to try reloading 2.3.5. He obliged, and was back in 10 minutes.

I was now looking at my phone- with ALL its data still intact. I get home after the hour commute- and the damn thing freezes again.

Do I dare grow a set of balls and try flashing this thing to something real?
What did ATT actually do to my phone? Nothing?

I am so pissed with this thing I am on the verge of just biting the bullet and buying another phone off of CL to keep me going.

Sorry for the rant!

Chris

So last night I was playing a game of Mahjong- and the touchpad froze in middle of game (twice).

I am not convinced this is a device or hardware problem- so this morning cooler heads have prevailed. I have uninstalled 2 Apps that I had recently installed, and Facebook as well. Th e2 Apps I had installed after first of year were Juice defender(free one), and MapMyRun. Only App left is Mahjong and I have had that since the beginning- I am comfortable that ones ok.

So far so good- I will give it a couple of days like this, and then add Facebook. I will go a few days, and then maybe add MapMyRun and see whats happening.

I know I am doing this blind- but don't know how else to try finding something that has gobbled up all my resources or froze me.

Thx
Chris
