The last time I heard anything new about this was a solid 3 weeks ago. How will the update happen when does eventually roll out? This is my first Android phone so im curious as to how this all works...

This is ATT we are talking about, when they said April, they did not mention which year!:D

Lmao!

Yeah I wouldn't count on any exact dates. I remember when I had my Motorola Backflip, they said we were gonna get the Android 2.1 update sometime in March/April of last year. Well we finally got it... 7 MONTHS after they said we were gonna get it haha. So yeah, don't count on exact dates.

Is there anyone out there getting 3g+ download speeds? I live in LA where the map shows 4g coverage but no increased speeds here. Does anyplace have the enhanced backhaul on yet?

Was that the update that ATT was supposed to release to the Inspire and the Atrix to un-cripped 4G speeds? ATT finally admitted they had disabled
hsupa+ or something. I've gotten lost on all the updates...

The update (software) that is supposed to happen in April is for upload speeds.

I was trying to see if anyone has had better than standard 3g download speeds yet (ie 4g tech with the enhanced backhual turned on at the cell towers.

AT&T said that they would be done with the hardware upgrades to their towers by March 31st and that combined with enhanced backhaul (better cables connecting towers) we would be getting 4g speeds (reality it means 3g+ speeds. I just have not seen anybody boasting about getting better speeds yet. AT&T are a bunch of liars. No 4g yet at all for anyone as far as I can tell.

We're still on EDGE down here, so I guess no upgrade here. the nearby town has 3G but nothing else, and it more of a metro area. I guess TN got screwed in the upgrade.

I'm usually near wi-fi, but sorta sad att lies in all their advertising. So, Can you even call the Inspire a 4G phone I'm thinking?

I'm not getting very fast speeds in the Dallas area. The best speeds I've been able to get are 2.89mbps download and 0.35 mbps upload. This was with full bars. When I'm only getting 2-3 bars I'm not even getting 1.0 mbps download speeds.

Pushing the update before the network upgrades are rolled out isn't going to accomplish much. Unless you're in an upgraded region, you'll see the some improvement on upload (I went from 400k to 1.2M when I rooted), but nothing earth shattering and very little improvement on download. Latest rumor says 4Q2011 for my market (Tampa Bay area) and I'm guessing that holds for a lot of others as well.

My guess is that they'll hold the HSUPA update and include it when they roll out the Android 2.3 (GB) update. A production quality build of 2.3 for the Desire HD has just leaked, so I'm guessing 6 mo before an Inspire 4G roll out which would line up pretty well with more widespread availability of network upgrades.

Let's hope I'm wrong, but I've been with AT&T long enough to know that it pays to set your expectations really low.

Where did you hear this information from?

Pretty sure today's update only applies to the Atrix. I have another post on this forum with a response from HTC that I got yesterday about the HSUPA update for the Inspire. They claim the April deadline was from an AT&T employee on Facebook..and not an official statement from AT&T...and that there was no set ETA on the update for us.

You're close, actually it's what Century? ha...ha..ha... :)

Seriously, I heard from a good source that it's likely to arrive any day, check from you device.

before update yesterday... .5-.8 download and .3-.4 upload

after update and phone is showing H+ with only 3 bars! (Notice the "Hsdpa" connection type) Faster than my home wifi connection...

So to all the people saying this will only improve your upload speeds.. I say HOGWASH.. my download speeds have improved dramatically.

I received the update on first day of deployment by at&t. I live in Southern Indiana. I would expect the rollout over the country pretty fast since i was able to receive it the first day. At&t actually came through this time! :D

I used the speedtest.net app if your curious
