Root So you want themes...

Ok, ive been asked a bit about adding themes to my rom. But the big question is...
What do you want? What would you like to see themed?
Leave your suggestions and I'll see what I can come up with.
No promises on it actually working, but I will make an effort towards this subject
 
Gradient status bar (KitKat system and systemui icons) kitkat dialer layout with 4.2.2 quick settings ... Keep it as AOSP as possible.

Ok, good suggestion and probably the easiest to do.

AOSP is nice, its simple its...well...boring. Everyone and there mother wants their phone to look like AOSP because everyone and their mother has an AOSP rom.

But where's the personization? Where's the uniqueness?

I was thinking more along the lines of like:
Colored themes
Topical themes
Manly themes
Girly themes
A Horror/Gore based theme (my favorite subject matter...actually been visualizing this in my head for the past hour >_<)
A Minecraft theme (again, been thinking on this one)

I want IDEAS

I majored in Graphic Design in college. I want to challenge the possibilities of what the Android OS can look like...FEEL like

If I do this I want to go ALL OUT. Status bar, battery icon, settings menu, dialer, messaging...basically everything that can be themed WILL. Have them seam together in a manner that makes your phone look personal. I want to make each theme stand out from the crowd, make people jealous, make you want to show it off and be like "You have GOT to see this..."

I want to give you the coolest looking phone on the block. Yeah its a tough deal and again I make no absolute guarantees, but I'm willing to take it on if theres enough demand for that kind of thing.

Its an ambitious dream, it may not pan out as much as I hope. But I'm willing to take on the challenge.

Well tbh the gradient status bar is a pretty involved mod as well as the flip animation quick panel from 4.2.2. I've done them for several devices both include XML and smali edits along with some basic image swapping.

I'm sure it is, and if your willing we could tag team it.
As well as GD in college, my senior year of high school was devoted to getting a Professional Web Design degree, so I'm familiar with XML code. But if you want to help me put some of those features in, your already a step ahead of where I am
 
Yeah I have had a long love affair with android and learned as i went. But in the coming days I'll build it if you like, the code is edited in the framework-res.apk, systemui and androidpolicy.jar.

I'm aware of where they should go, just not exactly what to do myself. I'm also self-taught at all that ive been doing so far and have actually impressed myself on the amount if patience I have to do this kind of thing. I always wanted to start out somewhere but didnt think I would ever actually do it. Now ive got started and I want MORE lol. I'm out for blood on the Android system. I want to make it my b***h >_<
Do you have any knowledge on adding the AOSP lockscreen that you could throw that in too while your at it?
 
Yeah the lockscreen is pretty easy that's almost all framework-red.apk editing. Have you thought about building CM10 from source?
 
Our team has started on CM10 (I think) and CM11, which actually boots! But unfortunately its suuuuuuper laggy as we have to completely rework the graphics driver to play nice. I personally have no experience in porting though I really want to start on that too. Unfortunately my main focus right now is the stock rom I created. Its really slick and I'm loving the feedback which is why I want to add as many features to it as I can come up with while not making it overbearing.

As far as themes go, i would like to see some minimal themes with maybe some text icons, right now I'm using buzz launcher and themer launcher that have some pretty awesome themes, but they bog the phone down so having it built into the Rom would be nice, my ideas....

Minimal style theme
Black and red
Black and yellow
Blue and silver
Linux flavored theme
 
Hey, just wanted to thank you guys for all your hard work. I think I have a few suggestions as far as themes go:

Outer Space theme
Futuristic technology theme
Underwater aquatic theme. I'm thinking making the phone look like you are holding a small aquarium.
Maybe something to do with samurais and ninjas and kung fu and stuff like that
Marvel heroes and villains theme.
And a special request: A music theme for my girlfriend. No particular music just a general music theme. She is a true audiophile and loves her music. :D

Just throwing a few ideas out there.
 
Those are some nice suggestions. I really like the aquarium idea, sounds like fun. The space one I thought about too. I got a few good ideas for that.
Themed is a really good app, but yes its REALLY resource heavy. Ive seen Note 3's stutter on that thing. Fun to look at, but not quite ready for market IMO.

How about a theme that changes every time you unlock you phone ..lol jk not or a fire and ice animation theme where when the phone isnt locked your icons look like there on fire then right before tour phone goes to look screen ice or water puts the fire icons out ..idk its kinds far out there but I think its pretty cool

Thats...an idea but probably out of my skill set. That would take ALOT of time and probably extra apps developed for that feature alone. But I like the thought! That would be pretty sick ^_^
More along the lines of visual appearance. Gimmicks are a lot harder to implement. Not to mention they would hog precious resources. I just wanna change how the phone looks and feels, not what it does.
Fire and ice themes (or combination there of) are a nice idea though
 
What about an gamer theme.
Like halo
Black opps
Even combine both I havent seen anything like that before.
Maybe like a guns theme or zombie theme or both guns and zombies lol
 
Could probably find a way doing the transparent settings menu, yeah that sounds neat actually.
Games are really my fortai, my YT is pretty much gaming so it wouldnt be hard to find inspiration for that stuff. Not a huge COD fan, but sales numbers dont lie.
The best part about this, I feel, is somebody else could come along from a different phone and be like "I want that!" We could see a lot of innovation porting themes between phones.
Anyone have a theme they like I could try and replicate?
 
I just got an ideal ..one of my favorite games is gears of war.. I was thinking for the 3g bar be the lancer and the vain saw spins when your data is connecting..or your download symbol be a garnade exploding things like that...that would be sick now thats something you dont see..:)

One other thing when you connect your charger and your battery icon could be a gear that spins now thats sweet.!!
 
Animations for those will be pretty easy to implement, though I think the 3g thing should be a little more standard but still stick to the aesthetic.
I noticed this phone doesnt have an animated battery when charging. Gonna look into that cuz I have a few ideas for some of the themes I thought of (like a saw blade, flower, car tire spinning) also some unique battery status styles (the saw blade slowly rusts, flower petals disappear, minecraft characters change) really neat stuff I thought would be cool.
But these are just MY ideas. If I want to make success and appeal to an audience like I do my channel, I gotta listen to the people too.
I'll start work on some simple stuff in a day or so (colors mostly) and get into the heavier stuff when I'm comfortable with what I'm doing.
