Soft brick after flashing Neatrom!

Hi guys, a few months ago I successfully rooted my sgs2 with Siyah v4.1.5 kernel ( think that was the version. recently however I have started getting random lock-ups and other strange behaviour, so I decided it was time for a new rom. After getting dizzy at the sheer number of roms available, I went for Neatrom because there was an excellent step by step guide here by Dynomot. I followed his directions to the letter and all seemed to go well, the phone rebooted ok, but no sooner than it had finished rebooting everything seemed to fall apart. I kept getting a box appear telling me that "Unfotunately Android process.acore.process has stopped" . This was accompanied by the phone freezing for a while. I managed to reboot again, only for the same thing to happen, so I decided to do a factory reset. I eventually managed to do it and the phone shut down.........but after that would not reboot.....only into download mode, or if I try to boot, I get the samsung gt i9100 screen then nothing. Any help gladly received guys, thanks. Dave

Hi and welcome to the Android Forums Pulse8!

This is the method I use when I feel that I screwed something on my current rom. :)
1.) Flash Ice Cream Sandwich via Odin.
2.) Re-root it using CF-Root.
3.) Run Chainfire's TriangleAway App.
4.) Re-flash whichever ROM I am using
- In this case, re-flash NeatRom. I suggest XWLSD Full/Light. :)
5.) Re-flash Kernel
- Siyah, DorinmanX, Jeboo. Your pick. I suggest Siyah and Jeboo. :)

There you go, phone good as new! :D

This usually occurs when there is an error in your contacts list after flashing, it may occur again so the best option if it does is to delete contact data and contact storage from within app manager. If that fails delete your contacts from your phone and restore from google or wherever you have a backup of them

Cheers

Thanks guys,
I have managed to flash stock ics and have now got a working phone....yippee!! That's the main thing ATM. I followed the guide on this page
Technical Notes - Samsung Galaxy S2 - Fix soft bricked
after opening the recovery package I used only the code (pda) file, flashed that, and voila!
I shall attempt to follow SCPadgeebar's suggestions re. rooting and flashing a new rom as and when.
@kelis32, now that I have got a stock ics, and downloaded my contacts from google, do you think the corruption issue is solved? If not, what do you suggest?
Thanks guys
Dave

If you do a full wipe prior to flashing a ROM you will have no issues but will have to restore all your apps and setting, contacts, accounts etc

The upgrade is a no wipe release which will effectively leave all of these things on your phone, occasionally there may be elements of corruption or incompatability.

It can be relatively easy to sort these but if you don't mind restoring your phone then a clean install is always best, it gives you opportunity to get rid of all the garbage that has been accumulated over the years and start with a nice clean base.

If you want to do a full wipe

Save Neat ROM zip to your internal SD Card
Go to recovery, Select Wipe data, Wipe cache
Go to Advance and Select Wipe dalvik cache
Go to Mounts and storage, select Format system
Select Install zip from SD Card
Choose zip from internal SD Card

You will have to root your phone again to perform this

Well, I can report that NeatRom lite is now up and running very sweet indeed. I followed kelis32's guide and did a complete wipe, and everything turned out well.
One thing that puzzles me is that although I peformed a complete wipe, I still had my wallpaper, and a few apps from the previous install. I tend to think in terms of a pc ie. if I formatted my hard drive, and reinstalled windows, then nothing would remain from the previous install. Maybe a complete wipe and format on a phone isn't as complete as it seems?
While I'm here, how come it's possible to brick a phone, but never a pc? If a fresh install or an overlay install goes wrong on a pc, you just format and start again. I know I'm showing my ignorance, but if I don't ask, I'll never know.
And please don't just say "google it" or, " we're not here to help noobs like you" which has been said over on XDA forums a few times. Sorry to moan about such a highly held( I think) collection of developers, but I've found their attitude very unfriendly to anyone who doesn't meet their required level of expertise.(I'm not alone) That said, I find it the opposite here, nothing but friendly banter and well meant advice!
Anyway, back to my new ROM. It's a little too early to get an idea of things like battery life and wifi perfomance (my place of work will test that tomorrow!)
I might be back to ask for suggestions as to a different kernel to improve the above.
Thanks for all the help so far guys
Dave
