Help Soft Keys Not Working :(

Hi I have had my S3 since the end of October and it has been running perfectly up until the last couple of weeks. The soft keys have started playing up and not working. Sometimes if I reboot the phone or take the battery out for a while they come on again for a while then stop working again. I took it into the phones for you shop on Saturday and they did a factory restore (even though I had already done it twice) and it was all fine again until Monday night when I got in from work. I did another factory reset on Monday night and all was fine again until last night. Last night I used Kies 3 and reinstalled the firmware and it was working for a few hours this morning now it has gone again. Is it possible that this is just a software problem or could it be hardware related? I really don't want to send it off for repair and would rather sort it myself than be without my phone for a month.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :D
 
Are you installing any apps after the reset? It could be a bad app I have had several lately myself screw up different things. I would reset the phone and not install or update anything as painful as that sounds. If it still does it then it's a hardware issue. But being as a factory reset does fix it temporarily I'm leaning towards its an app.
 
Thanks for the reply. I think I will start again from scratch with the bare minimum apps installed And see if it does it then. I have plenty of apps and games on my s2 and tab 3 Not sure whether Or not to root it
 
It definately sounds like software n not hardware mate and probably an app so try what Mydian says and if it still happens then maybe think about rooting and putting 3rd party firmware on but that will void your warranty so its a gamble :thumbup:
 
As soon as its reset I just install facebook and whatsapp and it works fine so will try and add one at a time until I find the culprit
 
Lol I was speaking too soon so just did another factory restore installed whatsapp and this android forum app and will see what happens over the next couple of days
 
Ok the soft keys have gone again. If I root it and put on another firmware is it possible to restore it to the original condition so I can send it back for repair if it needs it?
 
I suffer b4 a distorted scrrren blur and white and gteen colors and the soft keys wont work also

I solve those issues after i re format wipe all
So far so good i dnt have the isue anymore
 
Might do that tonight when I get in from work. If you put on another firmware does that wipe and format the phone? Or does it just write over the top of the previous install?
 
Thanks I have done a factory reset several times. Would I be better installing new firmware using odin then doing a factory reset? Although I might go back to 4.1.2 that way I would know whether its a hardware or software fault wouldn't I?
 
I dont think(?) It matters but i think id reset after.
If youre on 4.3 you cant go to an older version. It will probably brick the phone
 
Ok will reinstall 4.3 then do a factory reset straight away and see what happens but have a feeling its going to be going back to the shop for repair
 
Yeah its just weird how a reboot or reset fixes them for a short time. im hopeful the reflash will work. Good luck :)
