Help Software update using sideload and fastboot

Hi this is my first post and i hope its in the correct place and all

My nexus 7 (2013) is stuck in an android update circle where it constantly fails.

I tried to so the update to jss15q 4.3 using sideload where got so close but it said "signature verification failed" why could that be and can i stop it needing a verification?

I then tried to do it using fastboot and got so close again but got

:checking version-bootloader failed"
:device version-bootloader is "flo-03.05"
:Update requires "flo-03.14"

is there a way to correct either of them?

I am not rooted and i have downloaded the jss15q from developers google themselves (and i have debugging enabled)

Thanks for any help

Joe

I'm guessing you tried to upgrade from JWR66N. That build has flo-03.05, which your update complains about. Instead, you should update to JSS15J FIRST, and THEN to JSS15Q. JSS15J will provide the appropriate bootloader for the final update to JSS15Q.

Here is a table that provides the update sequence.

On that page, it looks like there is, as an alternative, a separate image for updating directly from N to Q, and that's probably not the one you are using, but should be.

Hope that helps. Neall

thanks i will try and download that other image from n-q and if that doesnt work go from n-j-q and i will let you know how i get on but thanks for the reply and the helpful information

I have just tried to update to jss15j and i got the same

:checking version-bootloader failed"
:device version-bootloader is "flo-03.05"
:Update requires "flo-03.14"

Is that because the device is only updating the system and not the bootloader?

Thanks for any help

I can't say for sure. Uncharted territory. Maybe unlock the bootloader? One additional suggestion I can make is to install the WugFresh toolkit and flash the JSS15Q firmware (not the update) and be done with it. Just google WugFresh for Nexus.

One note about running the toolkit to install the firmware (and/or unlocking the bootloader) is that it does a complete factory reset. Neall

hi i unlocked bootloader then i was able to go through with fastboot because it was then able to update the bootloader from 03.05 to the 03.14 needed.

I am all sorted now thank you for al your help!!

Good deal! I'm glad that worked out for you. Whenever I buy an unlockable device, I usually unlock the bootloader first thing, right out of the box. I do this whether or not I ever decide to to root the device or install a custom recovery or kernel. As you know, unlocking wipes the device clean. So, unlocking right away avoids having to unlock/wipe weeks or months later, when you decide to do those customizations. It keeps you from having to reload all your stuff and home screens after you've spent months getting things set up just right.

If you ever return the device for warranty work, you'd wipe it first anyway, so that'd be the time to relock the bootloader and let it wipe in the process. Neall

HI! First real post! I recently bought the new 2013 nexus 7 32gb wi-fi, my build number is JWR66N from Staples. I am very new to mobile devices, I don't even own a cell phone. I am not interested in rooting or anything fancy, I don't want to brick it or void my warranty. How do I update from JWR66N to JSS15Q? Just to mention my tablet has automatically downloaded an update (but it won't say which version it is).
