Software Update

I really do love my Nexus. That being said I am still waiting for that software update we were rumored to see in mid January.

I am hoping it will address keyboard lag, signal issues voice and data, and a few other things.

Has anyone heard anything?

Who rumored it to be released mid-January? Only place I saw that "rumor" was on these forums.

Anyhow, someone suggested unchecking Spell Check in the keyboard settings to eliminate keyboard lag. Not Auto-Correction when you drill down into the Android Keyboard settings, but the main Language and Input at the top. I think it turns off when the words get underlined in red and you can click to pull down the dropdown of choices to correct. The keyboard itself still autocorrects. Perhaps worth a shot.

Just tried your suggestion. It does eliminate a lot of the lag but not all and I don't even type that fast lol.

Am I the only other person slightly peeved that we bought Nexus phones to have the latest is before anyone else, and the prime already has .0.3 and we don't :/

This is my first android device and really the main reason for picking it was ICS and the fact fact it woul get quick updates supposedly. So far I am disappointed in that regard. One update that released th phone came out and that's it.

I'm not holding my breath for any life shattering updates anyway. We pretty much got what we got....I'm happy, and will wait till after the update to root, just to see.
My opinion is that if your waiting for major updates in 4.0.3, your probably going to be majorly disappointed.

just my thoughts

I'll worry when some other phone (Other than the next Nexus) gets Jellybean before us.

Faster major upgrades are what I'm in this for.

Granted, the Nexus S got ICS before the GNex dropped, so we may still see Jellybean first.

I'm new to this whole "root" thing. Just started reading up on how to unlock the bootloader. Why are you waiting for the update to root? Thanks

Just an FYI for those that are awaiting an update. This phone being a Nexus device does not mean that there are nightly builds available like CM ROMs, but instead it means that updates come without the extra wait that usually comes from with a phone that has a custom UI on it like Sense, Blur or TouchWiz. With those phones you have to wait for the manufacturer to create a new integration of the custom UI with the new OS. In some cases this takes a few extra months (Moto and HTC) in others it can take up to a year (Samsung).

With any update that we get it still has to go through some level of testing to make sure it works. The test Nexus phones that were out there before Verizon's was even released were up to 4.1, but it has been said that they are releasing 4.0.3 with many of the fixes from 4.1 included.
