software version? (not 2.1 question)

That is a pretty bad signal. If you have coworkers that use Verizon, you may want to look at their phones and see if you can find out what dBm they are at. It will at least help with a warranty claim, if it comes to that.

I hope you won't ban me, considering that you're a moderator now ;) (congrats) for second guessing you, but -97dBm isn't bad signal, that's typically what cell phones run at, especially on 3G or even 2G. I am at 2 bars (I know this isn't necessarily my 3G signal) and my phone tells me my signal is between -77 and -82, it's fluctuating and the -82 is when I'm at 3 bars.

Does your sig fluctuate when its in the same exact location? I can watch the sig go from 3 bars to no bars with out moving the phone.

Hey question? Will the MR2 UPGRADE erase my contacts and apps when installed? If so, what should I use to back up everything?

No it will not. It was a small bug fix and your phone already has it unless something malfunctioned in a big way.

Sure does, when I remove it from my factory installed cup-holder docking station the signal improves from 1 bar to 3 bars. And even sitting in the docking station it's fluctuating from 1 to 2 bars.

Hope this helps.

OK not really but at least i am not alone. I was not sure if it should be doing that or not.

mike295, do you live by a verizon store? The least you could do is take your phone to a verizon store and compare your db to one of the display phones. and if your phone is considerably worse, show them to get a new phone.

As far as getting a totally different phone, as of April 1st they will say they no longer can give you a new model after 3 returns. However if you are persistent and get the right person it can be done, it was for me. I had a Palm Pixi Plus with verizon and went through 4 within a week, they gave me an eris.

Yeah I went in last friday and thats when they sent me the new one I have now. I tried to compare to the eris they had in the store but, it was not working or needed a battery (of course) . I am going to stop in there again tonight to check it out. I am past my 30 day period.

Lol, no I won't ban you.

-97 dBm is on the real low end of the spectrum for signal with most phones. Once you reach -100 dBm (in most cases) you are going to start dropping calls. This combined with the fact that a short distance away he is actually registering 0 dBm means that there is a terrible signal in that location or his phone is having a problem. Since others in his office have Verizon and have signal along with the fact that his old phone had decent signal I would assume that this is a phone problem.

@mike295

As Tony said, take it back until you get something that works.
