[EDIT]FIXED!! Shortly after I posted this question I found forum post that helped me fix this annoying problem.

Please do it at your own risk.

How to do it:

1.- Root your device (of course)

2.- Editing the file

You will need a proper editor
On your device open your browser and go to: Total Commander - Android
Download and Install Total Commander for Android... and open it
OR DOWNLOAD BELOW

3.- Browse with Total Commander to root/etc
(hint: on the right side of the screen there's a shortcut to system folder.. look for etc/ and you will find it)
Long tap on "hosts" > edit file > Totalcmd-Editor

Open etc/hosts and edit the file. Just put # before 74.125.93.113 android.clients.google.com.

4.- SAVED

Edited file should look like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
#74.125.93.113 android.clients.google.com

remember: based on my own observation it should be look like this:

127.0.0.1(just one space)localhost
#74.125.93.113(just one space)android.clients.google.com

5.- Turn OFF your device.

6. Reboot your device.

7. Once the phone reboots, input your google account information when the phone asks for it.

Done!

Now you can connect to Google Play!

i have tried out ur suggestion, but i am not able to edit the host file, when i edit it shows some error while saving.

Please suggest any solution for this

Is this one of those Chinese devices with PRC govt. censoring included? We had something like this before, tablets bought in Shanghai, couldn't connect to Google or Facebook, and it turned out the hosts file had been fixed to block those sites.

Searched many topics all suggested to do reset and blah..blah..
your solution worked to sign in but still play store connection error and sync error not solved :(

hi i use samsung galaxy s4 zoom and i have the same problem
when i do the changes it says re-mount error what should i do

My old back-up Chinese phone had that issue after a factory reset. None of the other solutions wafting around the net worked. So i bit the bullet (as the phone was pretty useless without a google account to use Google Play) and followed your instructions.

Used Kingo App to root the phone without a hitch, and managed to edit the host file! And it worked. All good now.
Thanks a lot!

Oh and the remount error - allow it to remount, it should then save the edited host file.

I had the same issue a week ago..what you have to do is go into your google account on your lap top..look for the option of "two way verification"..what it does it sends you a text to your phone..then you enter that verification code in the computer next..and then your phone its recognized by google now..tryto do this process twice..then now you can try to access your google account from your fabulous Android..

Try to do another factory reset..the google play store is supposed to come to your phone by default..if it doesn't you can download it from other different places..and if you don't know where and if is ok with the guys in here I can send you a link of the app..let's wait to see what they say..

..another suggestion is to disable the two way verification...that worked for me with my moms phone..keep in mind you have to do all of the above from your PC..not from your phone.

Awesome Bro Awesome...Thanx Alot Dude You Are Genius What A Solution...I tried it And Guess What...Its Worked...Thank You So Much....

What can I say!!! I had spent not just hours, but days trying to fix this because my phone would refuse connection to Google and had stopped syncing anything that's Google. It gave the following error every time "couldn't sign in/there was a problem communicating with Google servers/try again"

I tried everything on every forum and was about to reset my phone when I stumbled upon this post.

All I can say is: *****This is all you need to fix this error*****

I can confirm that this fix just simply works, at least from my device's perspective - Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 / Custom ROM / Lollipop

Thank you so very much for your help and for the time you invested in coming up with an excellent tutorial. I signed up only and only to say thanks to you.

God Bless you.... Have a great day!!!
