Solution fix 2.3.3 update sms delay

@ Neo

How did CM 7 go? Still going strong? I'm thinking of giving that a shot, although I do prefer the HTC Interface, although, not over a working 3G phone :).

What a joke!. I've been on the phone to HTC yet again. They are claiming my only option is to downgrade to Froyo 2.2. They have no idea when an 'update' will be released.

They advised me that they have contacted Mobicity and advised them of the issue and were thinking Mobicity had contacted me to arrange the downgrade to 2.2 to 'fix' the problem once and for all.... no contact from anyone in 1 month.

@brezey

CM7 was sending out sms twice lol.

Mate it's not even worth my time, my phone's officially on ebay, can't be stuffed chasing hopeless warranty centers around. Waiting for the new iphone 5 (yes i know, i never liked them but even if i dont like it after a few weeks i can always sell it for heaps of $$ and buy a phone from a telco) to come out in a few weeks. Until then my trusty old nokia (which actually receives sms on time haha) will be used.

Good to see your determined, i for one can't be f***ed wasting my life on shit like this.

Regards

Not sent from my HTC because it's useless.

Hey Neo,

Yes well I'm all but about to give up as well.. shouldn't have bought a fancy case for the phone until I knew it worked lol... That's the only thing holding me back from sending it on for a 'replacement'.

I didn't really want to do this (void warranty etc) but do you know where I can find the stock 2.2 ROM for our Incred S? I don't even know what version of software was on it because it came with 2.3.3 already on it.

Bit of a noob at flashing a droid so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Brezey.

As far as i know, you can't downgrade without knowing or having the proper hardware or whatever they use. Basically it needs to be done by a tech.

Sigh.

Update:

Fixed the missed call issue using this from an XDA thread (don't have the link on me now).

Go to the testing screen (Phone keypad dial *#*#4636#*#*)
Select Phone Information
Press the menu button (three bars next to home button)
Select 'Select Radio Band'
Change it to the band for your region. I selected 'Aus Band', some have said it is labeled 'Aus Band 1'
Once set, restart your phone.

No more missed calls. SMS still come in anywhere from 5 mins to 20 mins late. Compare that to instantaneous arrival on 2G. At least now I can use 3G data without missing calls.

Hmm..thanks for the update brezey.

If only it was this easy to fix the delayed sms. lol

Hi unlucky mates,
I've seen this news from the HTC website:

"Update – HTC Incredible S Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.12.405.7. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx "

Without any date !!!

I've not received the notification yet, but as we know, they're gonna send every update in more echelons.

I got in touch with HTC by phone but (as always) they don't know what kind of update is it... damn them !!!

By the way, currently on my Incredible I've got the follow software nbr 2.30.405.1...
They are talking into the news about software nbr 2.12.405.7

Is that a downgrade?!? Well I don't care about it...
I just want my phone with no problems !!!

We still have to wait...

Hi Mate,

2.30.405.1 is the latest world wide release for the software.

2.12.405.7 is and older release.

We are still waiting for new update.

Yea, I saw that upgrade on the Singapore site before they updated the layout dated some time back in May.

Mines running 2.12.707.5 so slightly newer than the original upgrade to gingerbread (2.12.405.7) but still way behind the latest.

@ Neo-X

Have you tried the latest Aus ROM on your phone? Apaprently a fix was released for the Australian model a few months back (guess Optus complained and they made it a priority). The latest word from HTC Singapore is I have three options to fix the phone:
- Downgrade to Froyo
- Wait for the update to be released some time soon
- Get a local HTC rep to flash an Australian ROM. I'm waiting for them to confirm if this fixes the issues. The catch is it will void the warranty.

I'm leaning towards option 4. Buy any other Australian Phone (maybe an optus Incred S) and chase Mobi for a refund.

...

UPDATE: Finally! I spoke to someone that knew what they were talking about at aussie, some guy from there told me that they need to downgrade the phone but optus have also kicked up a stink and made HTC fix it on their roms.

So i'll be sending it in to downgrade then selling.

Hmm.. I spoke to a tech today and he recommended not downgrading to 2.2 as the phone would always want to update to the latest version and you'd be stuck with the same problem (easy enough to switch off the notifications).

Good news on the Aus ROM. I couldn't see Optus standing for an exclusive deal for an average product. I hope Aussie can confirm HTCs 'story'.

When I asked the Aussie tech about flashing an Aus ROM he said it was possible, however the ROM would be branded (Like I care about Optus SW!!! root and remove).

I'm expecting a reply to his Euro investigations in 24 - 48 hrs. Will keep you posted.

Is it possible to list the ROMs that yourself and others have tried with no success? Save the individual replies. I saw on HTC Incredible S Official Thread V3 that some people have had sucess flashing the Virgin AU ROM.

I notice all these updates seem to be from Aus, not sure if the Euro update will make any difference as I'm in the UK and had the delayed SMS and missed calls issue.

Iv also been having these problems when on GSM only mode so thought id speak to someone from HTC online. After going through the initial hard reset etc etc crap they always try get you to do, trying to claim theres no problems at their end and this is a network problem (Orange UK) he came up with this: Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this as a solution and how its gone if they have.

James: Ok. Please try this.
James: #*#4636#*# - Phone information - Preferred network type
James: GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G, 3G and H data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
James: GSM auto uses an indexed list of frequencies on which the device may search for particular systems. The idea behind the acquisition table is to optimize the acquisition time by identifying only the frequencies that should be searched, rather than searching the entire frequency spectrum. The information contained in each acquisition table entry includes an index, the network type, and associated channel blocks.

Iv no idea why he was telling me about the uses of GSM auto but for me changing the band initially to GSM auto (PRL). 20 minutes and 5 texts later all seems to be going well so far. Getting 3G/H speeds and as far as i can tell not missing any texts. Gonna give it a day or so further testing but we might finally have a solution before they send out a fix.

Hmmm, seems after leaving it overnight the problems have returned again this morning for me too. Ah well, time to start pestering htc again then.

Hi All,

An Update got sent to my phone last night (9pm AEDST). I'll test it out tonight (unreliable net here atm) and hopefully this is the fix we have been waiting for :D.

Is there anything I should do to install it, e.g. Fact/Soft reset before / after applying the OTA, uninstall certain apps etc? I know HTC recommends downloading through USB.

I'll report back once its applied.

Update:

Installed the update. Nothing to report yet. However I thought I'd share the Version info for it.

Android Ver: 2.3.3
Sense: 2.1
Baseband: 20.2811.30.085AU_3805.09.03.27_M
Kernel: 2.6.35.9-g0b44b72
Build Num: 2.30.707.1 CL88716 release keys
Software num: 2.30.707.1

Test day tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Hi Folks,

I've been following this as I was having the same sms delay with my IS from mobicity, however I figure I'll chime in as last night I got the same update as brezey has outlined.

I've had it installed for about 24hrs now and it does appear to have sorted the issue having received 10 - 15 texts over that time with no lag on the time stamp.

hopefully it continues to play nice.

I hope this update is rolled out in the UK soon. I've been close to throwing this phone with these SMS delays!

I tried to get my HTC Incredible S exchanged but Carphone Warehouse would not take responsibility and only offered to send it off for repair, even with a written email from HTC explaining that the phone is faulty.

Other than this fault I love my phone, but this is one major fault!

I had the same experience with Carphone Warehouse and will never buy from them again (Amazon have much better customer service).

I've gone back to using my desire until the update comes.

@brezey, how'd you go?

@all this update is for asia wwe rom.

Hi All,

Sorry for the delayed response. Been a little hesitant in responding due to the initial problem not raising its head for the first two weeks.

Wouldn't you know, the couple days you want to test it and everyone goes quiet lol. I can confirm that the update has fixed the SMS delay and the missed call issue :D (hope I didn't skeap too soon). Thank's HTC. Confirmed on WCDMA only and WCDMA (preferred) / GSM

I haven't missed a call for the past couple days and that includes leaving the phone overnight and ringing it in the morning without waking.

Messages come in almost instantaneously (under a minute most of the time) pretty much the same as 2G. Oh and wow, data is much better :D.

After the update a few programs required updating, gmail, flash player, google maps, Vientnamese IME (Viet Keyboard). I've looked on forums and they have warned if that keypad comes with the stock ROM NOT to update through the market as it will crash the keyboard. I don't need it anwayway but can't uninstall.

I hope the update comes through for all those with the Asian ROM. For the others (UK etc), get in touch with the HTC where your phone was manufactored. and put pressure on them.

@ neo-X:

If Aussie has your phone, I'd ask nicely if they can apply the update and test it, if they haven't already downgraded and sent it back.

Hmmm... now, how do we get the changes into CM7 or the likes :)???
