Solution fix 2.3.3 update sms delay

Hi All,

Sorry for the delayed response. Been a little hesitant in responding due to the initial problem not raising its head for the first two weeks.

Wouldn't you know, the couple days you want to test it and everyone goes quiet lol. I can confirm that the update has fixed the SMS delay and the missed call issue :D (hope I didn't skeap too soon). Thank's HTC. Confirmed on WCDMA only and WCDMA (preferred) / GSM

I haven't missed a call for the past couple days and that includes leaving the phone overnight and ringing it in the morning without waking.

Messages come in almost instantaneously (under a minute most of the time) pretty much the same as 2G. Oh and wow, data is much better :D.

After the update a few programs required updating, gmail, flash player, google maps, Vientnamese IME (Viet Keyboard). I've looked on forums and they have warned if that keypad comes with the stock ROM NOT to update through the market as it will crash the keyboard. I don't need it anwayway but can't uninstall.

I hope the update comes through for all those with the Asian ROM. For the others (UK etc), get in touch with the HTC where your phone was manufactored. and put pressure on them.

@ neo-X:

If Aussie has your phone, I'd ask nicely if they can apply the update and test it, if they haven't already downgraded and sent it back.

Hmmm... now, how do we get the changes into CM7 or the likes :)???

Yeah it's good news but this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

They did that, updated to the latest ota and sending it back.

Yeah now you can enjoy some custom roms ;)

Hi Mates,
I've got a solution to this issue (to use the Network GSM/WCDMA auto) that can be set up untill we won't receive the new upgrade (from FOTA).

We just need to set up manually our Network Operator:
from SETTINGS -> WIRELESS & NETWORKS -> MOBILE NETWORS -> NETWORK OPERATORS -> SEARCH NETWORKS -> after the research set up your Operator.

I've been trying this solution from 3 days and I'm receiving every SMS instantly.

I hope this will be useful to you.

That's all.

Bye

USELESS SOLUTION !!!
SORRY

Didn't make any difference, it was OK for a couple of texts then one with a 34 minute delay, the Desire has come back into service.

Damn...You're right.
After 4 days I've got back the sms delayed (almost 30 minutes).
I really think that "There's no solution", we have just to wait the new upgrade, that's all.
Anyway, I'm keeping in contact with htc support, if I'll have some new... I'll post it.

I have been speaking with HTC for months and they do not seem to be very helpful. They think that I am the only one suffering with this issue yet the internet is rife with forum threads detailing the same problems!

I am now sending the phone in for repair (which as far as I'm aware there isn't one until they release a new version of Android). I'm hoping if I just follow their procedure they will realise this problem isn't going away and authorise an exchange for a different model.

I shouldn't expect much from a repair. I use one at Newcastle University for both work and home use, and have had the incredible S for 3 months. It has been returned 4 times, but not once will they return it to the last system which worked (2.3.0 I think), and will not update the disfunctional update.

On the last return they offered a new phone, but insisted on the same model. I discussed the logic of this being idiotic, but they would still rather see a new incredible S be wasted only to be returned, rather than anything which worked - even with me offering to pay the difference. I do at last have a phone with an earpiece with vaguely acceptable quality, but still the same software problem.

The worst phone and company I could imagine. It is just an unusable product. receiving a text such as "Your visitor is in reception" 2 hours later is just unacceptable.

I'm not expecting anything from the repair. Did HTC confirm that this is an actual fault then?

Have you tried getting an exchange with who provided you the telephone after the numerous repairs you've had?

I've been following this thread, any word on this update being released in Canada?
I'm really hoping this can get fixed so I don't have to go through all the hassle of pestering people till they give me what I need.

I logged the following ticket on the HTC UK site on Saturday:

I recently purchased a Incredible S and since the update to Android 2.3 have had delayed SMS messages and missed calls even with full signal. Looking on various forums this is common and a software build of 2.30.707.1 has been released in Austrailia that seems to have fixed the issue.

Is HTC planning a similar release in UK soon or is there another solution to get round this issue.

This morning I got the following reply:

Thank you for contacting HTC.

We are currently working on a fix and update for this issue.

This will update will available shortly.

I have an Incredible S on Optus in Australia, and I am still experiencing the sms delay, even after an update has apparently been released. Im not sure if I received the update, however Im running software build 2.34.980.1, which seems like it would have been released after 2.30.707.1.

Is anyone else running this build and having the delay? I'm still stuck on GMS only because of this problem.

Also using Optus version 2.34.980.1 with same problem. Sometimes software with a newer version does not include all of the fixes of an earlier version.

I've emailed HTC and apparently my phone was originally released in russia? So maybe I'm not running the same ROM as others who have had the issue fixed. Going to see optus tomorrow to see if they can sort anything out...

Same problem with delayed SMS - bought Optus pre-paid Incredible S but using on Virgin (which is Optus network anyway).

Receiving an SMS can be delayed anywhere from 5 mins to 4 hours.

Software Number 2.34.980.1

Went to see optus about half an hour ago, they were hopeless... They are aware of the issue and told me to do a software update, which i cant do cause there isnt one for my version... They basically told me thats all i can so it seems I'm kind of stuck...

Thanks for the info Tom.
Have submitted an online support request with Optus as well. I'll let you know what comes back..

Have been on the phone to HTC and Optus again, submitted a complaint to Optus, and there best fix is to "try my sim in a different handset, or reset my phone to factory default".

Just submitted a complaint to the TIO, hopefully I get somewhere.

HTC are starting to really do my head in. Emailed several times. First time I didn't get a reply. Second time received a reply stating some generic reply that went along the lines of "That's showing an interest in a HTC product, we cannot disclose any info regarding updates" etc etc. I replied saying this was a ridiculous response and didn't even address the problem. I received another similar reply after this and I said something along the lines of it's a disgrace they are just burying their heads in the sand and not addressing the problem.

Anyone received any further info? This delay problem is ridiculous.

As previously stated I am in the UK too.

Just got an update through; Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0.

If this doesn't fix it, I'm giving up!

I have also updated mine to Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. Too early to tell if the problem is fixed. I will post an update in a couple of days & report if the problem has been fixed.

I am in the UK and have applied the 2.3.5 / Sense 3.0 update and, so far, all my SMS messages are now arriving within 1 or 2 seconds. The update process takes a while (I guess 15+ minutes) and there were a few nervous moments with the "frozen screens, blank screens, restarts, long splash screens etc but it got there in the end :)

(All my settings, screens etc seemed to be preserved apart from "Favorites" which I had to re-setup.)

I've just downloaded the 2.3.5 update and so far the texts seem to be coming through OK, if it is fixed it's just a shame it took HTC so long.

I bought HTC Incredible S about 4 months back (India) and promptly upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3.

Since then, am having delayed SMS and missed calls. Never thought this could be an issue of smartphone. Therefore have been constantly following up with Vodafone. They did everything from tagging to re-setting to changing the SIM and the problem remained as it is. They then advised to change the handset.

I bought another cheaper handset and the problem was immediately resolved. Having now conculded that the issue with my HTC Incredibel S phone, I tried to find updates. Currently my software data shows

OS 2.3.3
HTC Sense 2.1
Baseband version 20.2805.30.085AU_305.04.03.27_M
Build Number 2.12.720.5 CL 37872 release-keys
Software Number 2.12.720.5

I tried to update software and from my cellphone and it always return with "No software updates availble"

Going through this Android forum, I now release that this is a big issue with HTC and the Software data Numbers shows that my software data is older and not the latest one. So, I want to ask the HTC guys,
1)why doesn't my phone update itself automatically with the latest software and updates.
2) why has the fix not been sent to me though my cellphone connects to htc website almost daily through my wi-fi data usage
3) why has nobody from the htc bothered to send auto updates
4) WHAT DO I DO NOW? HOW DO I UPDATE when my phone says no updates available!!!!!!!!!!
5) Through this forumn I have tried ..4636..., but problem still persists.
6) Why is the HTC website not showing fix for this issue

has anyone in australia got the 2.3.5 update yet?
and if they have can they confirm that it fixes the issue?

I've been using 2.3.5 for a few days now and the problem is fixed. I have not had any delayed SMS messages and calls appear to be better. I am happy I now have a working phone but still not impressed with HTC customer services as a whole.
