Root [Solved] device wont complete boot!!!

hmm... can i restore the 4ext backup, then flash twrp or cwm
then backup everything again and then use the app???
or will things get screwed up???
You don't even need to restore the nandroid backup. Just run the app in the fresh install of your ROM and select the backup you want to restore from when it prompts you.

I only tried the application enough to make sure it could read a 4EXT backup, which it can. If you have any problems with the 2.0 beta version, you might want to try the older version from the Play Store.

To answer your last question, if things don't restore properly from the 4EXT backup, you can use 4EXT to restore the nandroid with your data and then back it up with TWRP. You don't need to flash TWRP to do that, just start it from fastboot with the following command:

fastboot boot twrp_recovery.img

After the backup completes you can restore or flash your fresh install of the ROM and run the app again using the TWRP backup.

BTW, did you try flashing the VM stock kernel I posted? I'm just curious about whether Anthrax has anything to do with your booting problem or not.

nope stock kernel didn't fix it... ill try to backup and use the app but if it doesn't work, i guess ill just give up... just worries me that this does happen often...

this stuff takes a lot of time... but i must say that the app is designed brilliantly...

The closest I've had to this kind of problem is that some of the ROM's based on agrabren's CM10 would boot fine initially but after using them for a while would boot loop and had to be refreshed. I didn't even install many apps in those ROM's and I think it was related to settings like bluetooth and 4G that were still a little buggy.

I've been fine with mazda's AOKP and the lastest version of dastin's kangnam, and I've never had this kind of problem with a Sense ROM except for the Leedroid Tweaks issue that I mentioned before.

all hail this app... it just saved my life. Forget titanium backups... when my rom fails, i can just backup that failed rom and restore with this... system apps/data apps/mms/contacts/wifi settings/bluetooth settings/bookmarks....
and its free too (at least while in beta)

so yeah, i have all my crap back... restoring data was a piece of cake... system apps was a bit scary because all the services began stopping and at one point where the status bar dissapeared I got really scared and wanted to reboot... i sat it out and next thing i know, my phone is better than ever...

thanks every1 for helping and thanks ramjet for the app idea...

i went through checking out safe mode just to see how it works... nice to know these things...

app did it all... its amazing and it looks great..
Great!

Unfortunately you still don't know what the problem is, but at least you have a way to recover. ;)

So for future reference were you able to use the 4EXT nandroid or did you have to restore it and back it up again with TWRP?

4ext worked fine but while i did batch restore all the system and data apps, a few force closed after restore and had to restore a few of them manually one by one... but worth it

Glad you were able to get everything working Dave. Great outcome  and thanks to everyone who posted. :D

I might be mistaken but I believe 4ext makes backups in CWM format. Even the folder it stores them in is called CWM.

Yes I was aware that they were in the same folder but until ramjet confirmed that they were in the same format I was erring on the side of caution. Even changing twrp versions has been shown to create incompatible nandroids.
