I just bought a Verizon prepaid Moto G and a few days ago I got the 4.4.4 update. Now at least once a day, when I open the dialer or people app it will instantly disappear. It remains in the task list and if I bring it up it just dissapears again. Even if I swipe it away it still does it. Usually after trying about 5-10 times it stays open and doesn't happen again. It even happens after a factory reset which reverts to 4.4.3, in safe mode, and after clearing the cache partition. I've also cleared the app caches for the phone and people apps.
Motorola tech support told me to exchange the phone if it was still possible or if not, they would send me a new one under warranty. I exchanged it at Best Buy and it was fine for a day and now it's started again. I even tried installing Rocket Dialer and it's really strange because that dialer crashes as well but usually stays open the second time while the stock dialer takes up to 23 times at my last count before it stays open.
P.S. One thing I just remembered is that I always disable a bunch of system apps and I even did it after the factory reset. It's such a habit I didn't think twice about it. Maybe the KitKat update needs one of these running? Here's a list of the apps I disable (which caused no problems with 4.4.2).
