Help [SOLVED] How do you use wifi in Airplane Mode?

This is the first phone I've ever had a problem with -- since I hope to use this device like an iPod (no service), I turned on Airplane Mode and tried to turn on Wifi -- only to run into an error.

Is this a permanent issue? At least the Warp lets me turn off data while I'm still connected, but I really don't need the device scanning for network towers all the time; it'll be a waste of battery.

...Ideas, anybody?

Solved:

I downloaded "Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool" from the Android Marketplace (or Play), and after a couple attempts managed to get into wifi while Airplane Mode was off. It looks like the tool sets some things independently too, so you don't have to open it every time to start wifi from within Airplane Mode.

Cool. I wish I didn't need an app for this, but I'm still glad it can be done.

You can also use the power control widget.... I had no problem

I use the airplane app when out of service, but near wifi, for a long time. Once you install and run it, you can go to the menu and somewhere in there is an option to hide the status bar icon.

Then you can toggle wifi and bluetooth when normal airplane mode is activated through the power button menu. You never have to mess with the airplane app again.

I did that, actually... Although I probably won't be getting rid of the app any time soon, the settings appear to be permanent.

Seems like the wiser choice Why waste memory space and load up on apps your device came preloaded with? I have the screen to my left from my home-screen dedicated to my 4 most used (widgets) and power control sits there nice and cozy waiting for its orders its quick and reliable never fails.

So I got a new Warp (screen issues) and tried what you guys suggested... wifi just hangs there, looking like it's trying to turn on, but not turning on... then I downloaded the airplane mode/wifi app, ran it once, locked the wifi into the settings, and now have no problem setting wifi using any method.

Am I keeping the app? Heck yes.
