Help SOLVED! I replaced cracked glass now swipe doesn't work

Ok gang..here is the deal. I dropped the s3...screen cracked. I bought the tools to repair it and new screen. I heated it up with a heat gun...removed the cracked screen, installed the new screen. Phone comes on. Home screen is there BUT I can no longer swipe..it does not work and also the two illuminated touch sensitive buttons on left and right of the middle button no longer illuminate or come on or anything. I can receive calls and texts but I can not access them because the touch screen isn't working..I cant access apps or answer the phone.

What I think may be the issue is I may have gotten it a little too hot in the beginning..I zapped my laer pointer heat tempature reader on it and I got it up in the 220 f range...then I made sure to put less heat on it.....but when I got it up real high in heat I noticed the actual lcd screen under the glass get a little discolorized on the bottom area of the phone...like I may have scorched it the lcd screen. BUT if I did scorch it then wouldn't the home screen and apps not show up? Everything is showing as crisp as ever...just the freaking touch screen isn't working and those illuminated buttons are illuminating.

So any idea what the problem is? And I did reboot/wipe data/factory reset and still nothing.

Mate youre the 3rd or 4th person ive read in this forum with same problem.
The others i read had used a hair dryer to loosen the glue so doubt if it was heat related (in their case anyway) but i dont think they came back to update us so i dont know what the cause was. The capacative key LEDs not working is a new one though.. are you sure you hadnt switched them off in Settings?

P.s, i have read from atleast one other person who replaced just the outer glass successfuly with no digitizer issues so i duno... id recommend to others with cracked outer glass to try what you did (because replacing the whole unit is very expensive) and if it fails, just buy the whole display unit or get samsung to fix it :)

I recently cracked the glass on my phone and have been doing some research on replacing the digitizers. From what I've found, the quality control on them is not very good, with a high proportion of them being defective. It's possible you didn't do anything wrong, and just got a bad replacement part.

the only replacement part i installed was the cracked screen/glass...I dont see how that can be defective..its just a clear plastic/glass piece.

the digitizer could of been damaged from the fall thats the part that senses your touch on the screen

nope..the digitizer was working fine...all that happened when it dropped was the cracked screen. I used it for 3 weeks after the drop and it worked flawelessly.

Let us know man. Good luck

I replaced the digitizer and everything working fine now. New digitizer cost me $204 off ebay. Removing the old and installing the new one was pretty simple. I did get 20% refunded to me after I installed it because the bottom left button doen not illuminate completely...only half of the button illuminates. The button works, just the illumination is an issue I can live with I guess. I emailed the ebay seller and explained to them the situation....they gave me back $40.80 cents...so at the end of the day it cost me $163.20.

Cool. Ive always kept those lights off anyway, think it looks better.
So is the digitizer just like a plastic layer that goes on top of the display panel or what mate or did you buy the whole panel?

I bought the whole panel which consists of the front glass and black display (the digitizer) and the eletronic internal workings. Its all one piece. To install it, you remove battery and sim card first of course then the front glass (heat it up to loosen the glue then pry it off).....then unscrew the the back and remove everything out of it to where all thats left is the black digitizer display and u scrape the digitizer out. I used a wide flat head screw driver..I did heat it up a little. Once scraped out, use canned air to blow it off and clean it up real good...then drop the new digitizer in, reconnect everthing....screw back plate back on. Was very simple if you have the correct tools...took a little bit under an hour.
