Help Some apps will not install

HTC Desire with Froyo O2 version

I am trying to install alogcat.apk on to my desire. It will download but I get "Unsuccessful" installation. I also get this with Adobe Air and FlashApp (NB FlashApp was installed but to test the installation procedure I uninstalled it and now cannot get it to install)

I have powered down then back up again several times.

I have installed a simple app from the Market before trying again to install the above required apps.

Also some updates work but most do not!

Any advice please?

I guess I will have to consider a factory reset!!

However before I do I need answers to several questions.

I will remove my 32GB sd card, with many apps on it, and replace with the original. I take it that when I put the 32GB card back in the apps on it will run even though the OS is 2.1?

The reset will load OS 2.1; will I still be able to upgrade to O2' OS 2.2. Is this upgrade still available? In other words will my phone detect that it has not the latest OS and automatically advise me, as it did several weeks ago, when O2 released their version of Froyo?

I will ensure that any vital data is backed up before starting this process.

Any advice please either on the original problem or the reset?

Not sure if you're dl'ing from Market, but try uninstalling your market updates. I had a problem downloading anything, either stuck on 'starting download' or end up 'install unsuccessful' - after i uninstalled market updates, it started working again.

I've had this issue a few times also.

Normally takes a few days and all apps start installing successfully again.

One thing I've found...after an unsuccessful install, the .apk file is stored in the "downloads" folder ... navigate to the folder, and open it to install - more often than not it will install without a drama.

Worth a shot :)

I keep having this trouble :( couldn't load Poweramp, cleared market cache, updates, everything, did a reset and it was fine.
Now I can't download Angry Birds, even the apk file. Had a few updates come through yesterday, Google Maps updated fine, but ES manager wouldn't .

Can some apps stop others from updating? Doesn't Winamp mess with some apps?

Tried clearing Market and Downloader Manager cache and date but still no luck.

I had Winamp but uninstalled it; vague feeling that app was giving strange messages??

How did you clear your updates; is there a listof what has been updated?

Where is the Downloads folder?

What basic file manager do you use?

I use Astro and cannot get the to the file structure you do. The only download folder I can find is on my SD card

May be getting somewhere.

Replaced the 32GB sd card with the original 2GB card. Can now install apps to the 2GB card. Re-installed the 32GB but cannot install apps to that.

Before going any further I want to change the default install to the phone rather than the sd card. Phone will only install to sd card at present!

I can find no settings to change the default install device; can anyone please advise?

First off - If you factory reset the phone the OS version wont downgrade.

Second - Sounds to me like you might have a fake 32gb SD card - there are LOADS around. I'd have a look on google and see if you can get an app to do a proper test on it. Formatting and looking at its properties wont be enough.

Thank you; had just found that before returning to this forum. Running a test on the original 2GB sd card at present.

Finished testing both original 2GB card and 32GB card; at least 7GB that was free.

Result was that both passed as clear.

So now will transfer as many apps to phone as memory will allow, then reformat 32GB card, then transfer apps back to card and test, say after every few transfers, to see if apps will install on 32GB card.

Still would like to know how to force installs on to phone instead of the current default of installing to sd card?

To change default location:-

at least I found out how to do that.

Next using a combination of phone memory and my 2GB card I got all my apps off the 32GB card. Backed all data then formatted card.

Moved most apps back on to 32GB card. Installation now working properly again.

Will transfer data back to 32GB later to day; see if almost filling the card recreates the problem. Most data is MP3 files; 400+ albums.

Reloaded all data back onto 32GB cars leaving just under 2GB free and all seems to be ok.

All tested apps working, updates update and can download new apps.

Keeping fingers crossed that it was just the card that got scrambled and formatting cured it?

Be interesting to see how you get on updating apps stored on the card, I had to move mine back to phone memory, otherwise they wouldn't update
