Help Some basic help with the EVO i just got today

diplomat1

Newbie
Hello everyone. I just got a EVO today and i have a couple of questions. Hope you guys can help.

1) I fully charged the phone around 6pm and now at 1:30 am (after some talk on the phone and not alot of texting) my battery is at almost half. What can i do (besides get a new extended battery) to the phone so i can save battery? I was looking through the forums but couldnt find anything. I know the epic has a great writeup on how to save battery by telling us what to close because my brother has an epic and his epic used to drain battery alot but after he read that thread it has been perfect. Does the evo has a similar writeup i can look at that say what i can do exactly to help my battery life?

2)What mAH is the battery the comes with the phone?

3) What is a good task killer i can download that doesnt take alot of space but yet is a good one to use? The epic has something called System panel lite, does the evo have something like that?

4) What is ROOTing? I saw the rooting for begginers thread but what exactly is it? Is it like a hack of something? Is it safe? Can it be undone?

5) I just bought a screen protector from phantomskinz but what is a good case that can support the evo safely? Also what can i do to clean the screen safely? (alot of spots on it already).

6) I see i can change the keyboard on the phone? How can i do that?

Thats it for now Thank you guys again for opening this thread i know its alot but i really like this phone and want to learn how to properly use it. Thanks

First.....welcome!

A lttle reading in the sub forums will answer all of these questions. I will do my best to post some direct links later this morning but do know that every one of these questions has been covered in great detail in the sub forums above this general section.

Just spend a few hours in the evo forums everyday and after a few months you'll be on your evo like flies on shit. Everything you could even want to know is on these pages. If there's something specific you're looking for try searching.

As for the battery you can pop the back cover on the phone and read the mah rating on the battery itself. You need to know how to pop the cover anyway in case your phone locks up or ever phantom dials.

Use task killers at your own risk. They can be handy for very few things. Its very difficult to link the threads from my phone. I will be at the office soon and will provide ya with some reading material. Check out the accessories sub forum in the meantime

If you decide you want an extended battery, look through the accessories forum. There are more than a few choices ranging from $8-$100 I personally use the sprint extended battery.

2. you found the answer

3. Read through the battery threads and decide if you actually need a task killer. System panel, timmeriffic, tasker are all great. There is a newer one called green power that I have not used but keep hearing good things about it. I keep advanced task killer on the phone for specific reasons...if you start using these and do not pay attention to what you are doing you can cause some major issues.

4. This thread should answer your questions regarding root, including what it is. Matlock not only did a wonderful job creating the thread, but he also updates it regularly

5. I am again going to point you towards EVO 4G - Accessories - Android Forums
keep in mind that if you do go the extended battery route of 2200 mah or higher, the size is increased and most cases will not fit. The best "full list" of stock battery cases is to go to amazon and search "evo case" ..nearly everything currently made is there.

6. Really depends on what you mean by change. There are a number of application based keyboards in the android market. you can dload them, purchase them in some cases and install them. If you do root, you have some other options like using keyboards that have been themed, modified, or even keyboards from other android devices.

a slew of great how to's:

And do remember...this forum has been here for a bit. Most questions that may seem new to you may not necessarily be a new topic. In some cases we have covered some of these topics 10+ times. I don't EVER discourage anyone from posting, but also remember that we aren't here to do everything for you. Do some reading and research and thank those that help, past posts and present!

you can also pm me if you have questions that you just can't find an answer to. I don't mind at all.

Thank u very much mr.ed. i have another quick question. When my phone is on the home screen and there is no wifi available, the 3g logo comes on top. Now why does the logo sometimes be filled with white and sometimes it will be gray. Im talkin bout the 3g logo not the arrows. Btw wat do the arrows mean? Thanks guys
