Some chargers work but not others?

So I've found that some of the chargers I have won't charge this phone. I thought USB should work fairly universally? The charger in my wife's car (lighter socket plug-in with USB on the end) worked fine on my BB Curve with mini-USB, but when I plug the micro USB cable that came with the phone in (works elsewhere), the phone does not recognize that it is connected to a charger. I also have an old wall plug to USB charger, and it isn't recognized either. I just bought a car/home combo charging kit off Amazon (sold as for X10 among others), and it does the same thing.

Do different USB chargers use different amperages? Is there a minimum I need for this phone? Thanks in advance.

I did search, by the way, sorry if this is an old topic.

Input:100-240 VAC ~150mA, 50-60hz
Output: 5.0 VDC===700mA

thats what mine says, I did find that an LG phone charger with similar voltages does work too.

Ye my girlfriends BB charger doesn't work with my X10, and I heard alot of other people say they had to buy the genuine X10 charger because no others would work

I had to deal with this problem when trying to connect my phone to a USB car adapter. After a bit of research, it turns out that the standard for microUSB charging (which all manufacturers are supposed to eventually adopt) is for the data pins to be shorted. Since not everyone adheres to this, some chargers work and some don't with our phones.

I ended up opening the adapter I had and then bridging the 2 center pins of the USB type A female connector (DATA+ and DATA-) with solder. After this, the phone would recognize the charger. So basically, you're going to have to open up the chargers and short the pins as I did. It shouldn't make any difference to the devices that currently work with them as I don't believe they check for the short like the X10 does.

Hope this helps.

OK no soldering for me....
any links to ones I can buy that will work for sure?
or perhaps local stores?
Thanks!
depends on where you are from but i just took delivery of one of these:
Sony Ericsson EP750 Mains Charger For Cedar / Spiro / Vivaz Pro / X10 / X2 / X8 / Yendo - Mobiles at Play.com (UK)

slightly cheaper than the standard charger, official sony product and is much more useful to me :cool:
i've seen this same product advertised at twice that price on other sites.
