Root Some clarification about rooting/roms via Mac

I'm looking into putting a Rom on my OTA 2.2 Droid. After doing a bit of searching it seems like you can only do install SPRecovery and whatnot only via Linux or Windows. Is that true? Am I out of luck?

You dont need a mac to root/ change roms.

[APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.1) - xda-developers

Once you root your droid, just use rom manager (download in market) to switch roms.
