Welcome to Android Forums. I have had my Atrix for over 2 months now and just loving it. It will take time to learn how to use the Atrix and all it has to offer. (Patients is a must.) I have had a few problems, but they were from user error and not the phone. It is a fast phone, that you can run tones of apps at the same, time without a notice in lag. You can pretty much do everything with this phone, from creating documents, watching movies or TV, listening to music, gaming, etc. I will answer your questions first, before adding in my 2 cents.
1) No it wouldn’t be wrong to jump to the Atrix right now. Sometime this month, it will be upgraded to Gingerbread.
2) The screen is beautiful, bright, sharp and very rich in color. You can see some pixilation, if you look really close and hard at certain images. But, it still looks good though. (This is personal preference.)
3) The front facing camera is ok. Don’t expect to take pictures to save for a scrap book. Its primary purpose is for video chat, and for that, it does the job. The rear camera, in my opinion, works really well and takes nice pictures. You do have to play around with the settings, to get familiar with which settings works best with each picture scene. For example, for close ups, they have a macro scene setting to use, instead of trying to zoom all the way in. (Zooming in to much, will make the picture look grainy.) I have compared some pictures to the original scenery and see that the Atrix pictures, for the most part, are true to life colors. What I mean is, they don’t add more color to the photo, then that’s already there. The LED dual flash works well too. It takes decent pictures with or without the flash.
4) Video – I have only used the 720HD and it looks great. Frame rates are smooth and audio is great too. (I haven’t had a chance to see what it look like on a TV though.)
5) Motoblur is a love it or hate it thing. The only thing I don’t like about Motoblur, is the home screen functions and cartoon buttons. But I installed a launcher called ADW Launcher Free. With ADW, I have more customizations to the home screens, app drawer, etc., that Motoblur doesn’t have. I do still use the Motoblur widgets though. Love’em.
The phone does everything well. I have created documents on my phone. Updated spread sheets. Viewed PDF’s. Motorola’s Phone Portal is really cool. Allows you to view your phones contents on your computer without the USB cable. See pictures, send e-mails, text messages and play your music and transfer these things between your phone and computer. The battery life is really good, but does depend on how you use the phone. How many widgets you have. How bright your screen is. How often you have your e-mail and social apps update, etc.
On average, I get between 12 to 16 hrs on a single charge with heavy usage. Love the finger print scanner, sometimes it might take two swipes to register, but works well. I really love using it when in the car dock. (You can swipe up too.) Playing games are very smooth, detailed and almost like playing a hand held game. Call quality, with the noise cancellation mics, come thru very clear. I can hear people clearly, in Downtown Chicago, without having the volume all the way up and they can hear me too. Screen is very sensitive and the touch sensitive buttons work well. Emailing and texting is really easy as well as adding attachments. It has it’s own stock Task Manager. Real easy to use and very useful. (Learn how to use this, its your friend.) Internet surfing is fast, but depending on your signal strength. Flash contents plays really well and you can have multiple windows open at one time.
The music quality is really good, both thru the speaker and headphones. I can hear my music in the shower. (There is a separate equalizer for both.) Multitasking is easy and the Atrix handles it well, without any slow down. The GPS works great and is very fast to load and fix on your location. I hope this helps.
