Root Some Questions

Ok...I rooted my Droid using Super One Click...worked like a charm. I now have installed:

ROM Manager
Clockworkmod Recovery
Titanium backup
Busybox
SetCPU

Now if I understand correctly....ROM manager installs new ROM's...which are basically from my understanding like flashing a new OS onto a PC....and you just need to find one that you like.. I've already made a backup in ROM Manager...and I also made a backup in Titanium Recovery....which my understanding means I have a good image if I screw my phone to restore it back to what it is...and Titanium puts all my apps, settings, etc.. back.

Now here are my questions:

1. If I put a new ROM on my phone will I lose my calling capabilities? Do I have to reactivate my phone?
2. How high can I set my Set CPU thing? What's the fastest I can run my processor without killing my phone?....max and least (if that makes sense)
3. My goal from rooting is to be able to have a faster phone, with a cool theme, keep all my current google apps and store.. What ROM should I use? What is the most common one? I'm sure most people just root and do a common tweak.. Also...when Gingerbread comes out I'm guessing there will be a rooted version I can use?

1. you will not lose calling stuff and you will need to reactivate but it is so simple. Just log in with google id
2. cpu setting will very depending on rom, kernel and phone. Mine is set to 800mhz and i see no reason to go higher on my set up. Some go as high as 1.2g
3. most common roms are Bugless beast, ultimate Droid and liquid frozen. Although you can use any you like for the og droid.

if we get a gingerbread rom you will probably have to reset everything but with all the backup options out there it really is no big deal

Dont forget to make a back up of your phone after you get it all set up just in case you ever need it.

If I may most humbly elaborate and add/subtract from the last post.

1. You don't lose any calling capabilities. But IMHO it should be pointed out that there's a difference between reactivating your phone and resigning into google. Reactivating your phone requires dialing *228 option 1. Resigning into google is what the last poster really meant. And on a side note, when you install another new rom (especially if from another dev), you should _always_ wipe /data and /cache which will require you to sign back into your google account.

2. As pointed out your settings in SetCPU will depend upon what your phone will handle and exactly what upper and lower parameters the kernel you have installed will allow. I am like istolvampire. I am using a (p3droid) 250-800mHz kernel just fine.

3. Here's where I must disagree. Sure, at this site it would look like bugless, ultimate and liquid frozen are the most common, but there's more out there. IMHO those three are the ones that the most noise is made about, but that doesn't make them the only NOR most stable. From where do I get this opinion? Because of my last several months of mostly reading and posting in the rescue squad area of DF. Most of the folks with problems were running those very roms. But then again, it still REALLY is a YMMV type of thing.

At the end of the day, I'll take a CyanogenMod, Sapphire, or ShadowRom in that order.

good luck
