Help Somebody please explain MHL to me

I bought a note 8.0 (I know wrong forum, but the 8.0 forum isn't populated).

Love the tablet, but I have a question about hooking it up to the TV.

I bought a MHL to HDMI adapter and plugged it into the TV and nothing worked.

I wanted to know if an MHL adapter would even work with this tab. I know microHDMI ports work well with devices that have them, but these microUSB devices like the note don't seem to support them.

Did you connect power at the same time? Are you sure MHL will work without power?

The MHL adapter needs power. Also wonder if you have the 5 pin or 11 pin adapter. The S3 and Note 2 have pins remapped and need the 11 pin MHL adapter. I am going to assume the Note 8.0 will be needing this as well.

If you have this (standard) MHL adapter already (... and the Note 8 -like the SGS3- seems not to work with a standard MHL) then this solution might be interesting ...
