Someone needs to make a LED flashlight app

Does anybody have the know-how to do this? I have been waiting for a while now and it is taking too long. If anyone knows how to do this they could make a bit of money, I'm sure most people would be willing to pay a buck or two for it ;)

We need root access first. The Moto torch was made by Motorola so they had the access to achieve it.

i am working on it :)
my first...no ETA now but its in the works.
How about an app that wakes the phone with the optical trackpad as well?;)

(There are a large number of people on this site that are willing to pay a pretty penny for it!)

If I'm not mistaken, Froyo allows you to have the LEDs on when using the Camcorder, so if an app is not possible to be made we can just use that. It is how I did it on my Storm.

Where did you hear this?

It's listed as one of the new features for the update (LED Flash support for camcorder that is). I haven't seen anyone show off this new mode. It's odd that they are using the term "Flash" since it usually means a "flash" of light.

EDIT: Yep, here's a video of someone using the new "flash" LED support for the camcorder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x5rCM8OpxY

EDIT 2: Important to note though that you probably won't be able to control the brightness and it may not be set at the brightest setting for camcorder use.

im surprised this wasn't on there stock... my old school omnia did this out the box by holding down the volume button... great for when i was turning the house lights off when i was going to bed

There is no way possible to use a flashlight app on the Inc unless rooted because the necessary API isn't there to allow for use of the LEDs.

Just curious, do you have the link to that feature list? Every feature list I've seen did not have that. The reason why HTC restricted the use of the dual LEDs is because it would eat the battery life like crazy (was even put as a reason in the user manual) so it'd be interesting to see how this is handled, if it indeed is part of 2.2. Having the camera AND LEDs running at the same time would run your battery like no tomorrow.

They don't talk much about the new feature, but here are a few links:

Interesting. It is still to be seen how 2.2 will be changed/altered by HTC once it gets sent to them for some "Sense-ing" as the battery issue will definitely be a larger problem if people are going to be using that for the camera.

Let me rephrase that first quote.. a RELIABLE app that lets me wake my phone via trackpad and ONLY trackpad - I do not want the option of waking my phone via volume rockers
