Help Something damaged?

I had another post regarding a current problem I'm having with my phone. I was running PowerAmp with the volume on full and being charged via a printers USB port, the phone died suddenly and took 20mins before it would finally boot up. The problem now is the battery consumption has diminished incredibly and only lasting approx 4 hours with minimal usage.
I have performed a factory reset, installed a new battery and it hasn't made any difference. Could there be some internal damage?
The phone is quite hot while on charge and internet browsing!

Thanks in advance.

Pretty much unless its still under warranty.

I got it on an 18 month contract which ends this October. The problem is, I didn't want to upgrade just yet because I don't see anything out there that is worth upgrading to. Halving my monthly bill would have been a good option but I can't carry on with a 4 hour battery life.
The new battery i have since fitted is supposed to be 2340mah but I don't think it is, its no different to the original. I also have a 3,500 mah battery on the way so hopefully that might give me a little more charge time even though it will be a thicker phone!

I don't suppose rooting the phone would help would it?
