Something odd happened...

So I just came back from vacation and was going to upload the pictures from my phone to my computer via AirDroid (best app ever). While I was download them to my computer, I experienced a crazy internet speed! I have never seen those numbers from my connection. I have a connection speed monitor gadget on my laptop. I was just wondering, what the heck happened? Internet sharing maybe? Someone please help.

Crazy good or crazy bad? I don't know the app, but if it was point to point via your WiFi it's likely to be faster than your external internet connection.

It was crazy good. Usually I get around 145-150KB (what you get for living outside of a city) but during the download it was 1MB+. I would really like to know what it was and if there is an app to do it constantly.

Theres no such thing as an app that optimises download speed. The network either has the capability or it doesnt.

Could there have been a random spike in network quality? Yes. Can you do anything to reproduce that? Probably not.

The only option is that your phone has something on it that hinders connectivity. 145-150kb/s is real 2G connectivity. If you're getting more than GPRS or Edge, that figure is way too slow and needs to be reported to your carrier. Faulty sim cards can yeild slow download speeds, if youre not aware.

I might be misunderstanding but AirDroid allows you to upload your files over WiFi. 802.11g tops-out at 54Mbps - 6.75 MB/s so if you were using WiFi 1MB+ isn't "crazy". If you got it over HSDPA it's not impossible to get that sort of speed, it is massively unlikely, though (from my experience).

I know that back in the day Firefox on the pc used to start downloading a file before you told it where to save, so soon as you clicked save it would say it's downloading at something stupid like 10MB p/s when really it was only 1MB p/s.

You mean this?

I'm really not sure what goes here, but here is my second run. I have my laptop and phone connected to the wifi at my home. I shot a 2 minute video just as a test. Connected to AirDroid and started to download the video to my computer. And yet again, my download speed went to 1.2MB +. Just for the duration of that download. I then went to youtube to load a long video, and again, the max speed I read as 147-150 KB.
