Help Something went wrong

Ok, so I had been looking around the forum regarding a problem I was having with my HTC One M8 regarding charging. I stumbled upon a solution that had worked for some people, so I decided to give it a shot. It was supposed to be something to re-calibrate my battery, and the solution said it would be clear where to go. It loaded the bootloader, and even though my gut told me to back out, I thought maybe the recovery menu might be area I needed to go to. When the recovery menu came up, nothing looked right, so I decided to just choose the "reboot system now" option.

When my phone did restart, it started "updating" android, which was when I knew something went wrong. Sure enough, when it finished and booted up, it came up to the setup your phone screen. Is there anything I can do? Or have I inadvertently screwed myself?

It sounds like you did a factory data reset.

Go ahead and set up the phone, although I expect that your apps and data were removed.

In the future, if you think that system is faulting, hold volume up + power until it does a power reset, or hold volume down + power while powering on to get to the bootloader and follow the on screen instructions to go to HBOOT, RECOVERY, wipe the cache partition, and reboot. Both are harmless.

As for calibrating the battery, it's built in and Internet advice to play with it is wrong.
