Help Sometimes screen is black when I hit screen on button

Sometimes when I hit the screen/power button the screen will stay black and i can see the menu bar up top fine but all else is black. If I hit the home key then all lights up fine. Then sometimes Ill hit the button and it works fine.
Any ideas?

my screen is staying black. the buttons will light yo but i can see anything on my screen.

seen that when an app hangs. i have to hit the home key most of the time then kill the hung task happened with youtube on my phone.
