Somewhat bad battery life

So I got my prime today, and it seems as though the battery is draining quite quickly. Has anyone else had this issue with their prime? I on,y have wifi turned on, and updated to ICS today. I did let it charge to 100% and within about an hour after being unplugged it wax down at 89% with not much use. Does anyone have any ideas on how to increase battery life?

Buy the keyboard dock???

I think I will at some point, though isn't this tablet supposed to get close to 10 hours of battery life without the dock?

So after an hour, it went down 10%... so after 9 hours, it would've gone down 90%...

What are you complaining about?

Also, give it a couple of battery cycles then you should be good.

until i plugged my tablet in this morning for the ics update, i hadn't charged in 2 days 7 hours, and the battery use showed 15 hours of use and i was sitting at 33% battery life. this is also using the keyboard dock. i'm pretty impressed with the battery performance. usage includes browsing, facebook, games (angry birds season, riptide, summit x and extreme trial).

also, this is all with the power settings on balance mode and the screen brightness around 50%.

It could be me, but since ICS update today, seems the battery was going faster. Could be I used it more today, updated twice, without charging.. And the back has actually got rather warm today.

I'd say give it a few days and revisit. Let it drain also, don't charge it when you have 50% battery. Just like phones, the tablet has to build its battery cache. You need to teach it what 0% is and what 100% is.

That said, I can easily get a full day out of it, why not charge it overnight? No reason to leave it off the charger right? (unless you are draining it)

it was actually about 11% in close to 45 minutes. I'll just do some heavy use tomorrow to drain it, then I'll charge it again

Doing a software update rapes the battery. Hence why they recommend you have at least 50-75% battery before downloading/installing ICS.

My initial battery life seemed poor, but after a couple of cycles it's much improved. I've also found that I don't seem to need the screen at more than 20-25% brightness for what I use if for (am not watching movies or playing games), and that the power-saving mode seems to be just fine as well.

I've also noticed that the battery usage screen in the settings has no content. Maybe it takes a while to build up its stats.

Do you have it set to turn wifi off when the screen goes off?

Is there a setting for that in ics or do I have to use juice defender or something like that?

Ive been looking around and can't find any option for turn off wifi when screen is off in the ICS settings

I haven't looked into it myself, but I would assume its like any other android device.

Go into settings, click on wireless connections, bring up settings, advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy.

Don't see anything like that. I'm not too worried about it though

Ah, cool. Thank you.
Edit: switched it to turn it off when it's sleep, but it either doesn't work or my prime doesn't sleep lol

my theory is that ICS puts more power into wifi/gps to address the performance issue... which is why there may be decreased battery performance and it running hotter

i am actually astounded at the battery life, and how good it is. i had mine off charge for 17 hours yesterday, and when i plugged it in last night, it still had 30% left. and since i only got it 2 days ago, i spent a lot of time playing with it. for those that are experiencing poor battery life, my guess would be that there's some rogue app (as someone mentioned) that is killing the battery.

For rogue apps, download Spare Parts and check your partial wake usage.

And I'm also surprised at the battery life, which has been amazing so far. I do have the dock so I'm sure that helps, but I can leave Wi-Fi on, with the sleep policy set to never and easily go a few days without a charge on fairly heavy usage.

Standby usage is next to nothing. Probably due to the 5th core.

I got it to sleep and turn off the wireless. The battery life is great. I used it heavily yesterday and it was at 50% this morning when I left. The time was at I think 20 hours. The battery life got better around the second charge
