Root Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro help needed

Ive just bought a Sony Ericsson X10 pro mini for my wife and whilst its a simn free devie, it has some chinese symbols as well as english text. I want to install english sim free firmware. How do I go about this? Do I root or just install the generic firmware? Help guys...............please

No need to root. For new firmware use SEUS, and for the language hit the menu key and go to settings/language&keyboard (icon: a key with an "A" on it ... on my phone at least). The first item on the list should be "language".
