Help Sony Xperia S email app not working

B2GS3

Newbie
The email application on my Sony Xperia S doesn't work properly. Whenever a message is sent it doesn't appear in the IMAP sent folder. Instead it goes into a sent folder that is only on the phone rendering it useless.

It doesn't matter what I do with the IMAP prefix or anything else, the email application just won't do what it should do.

Not having access to emails that I sent on my phone, on my other machines, is a huge disadvantage as I'm sure you can imagine. Surely this isn't meant to happen, is it?

Is this happening with the Gmail or Yahoo mail? Have you tried clearing data from the mail application?

I don't use gmail or yahoo mail. It is happening with the standard email application using a normal, fully hosted, IMAP enabled email account that works perfectly happily on my Macbook Pro, my iPod touch and my iMac. It also works perfectly happily on an old Linux box that I still have knocking around.

I did try clearing out the data and also removing and re-adding the account details.

It's crazy. And I'm not alone, apparently...

I have checked on my two email accounts, both working perfectly.

I had a problem some monhts back when I switched to a new mail hosting provider, had exactly the same problem as you, and it was down to the paths being incorrect.

Very interesting. And thanks for responding. My website, and my email, are happily hosted with Bluehost. They provided a tutorial on how to set up a hosted IMAP email address on Android. In the tutorial they suggested that the prefix INBOX be added.

I did try this but it didn't make on iota of difference. It is almost as if the email application is ignoring the prefix instruction and therefore not seeing the IMAP folders that it needs to use.

What prefix did you use that eventually worked for you?

Sorry to take a couple of days to get back to you... tooo much work!

Ok, had a look at the email reply from my email host and they said exactly the same.

Please access the advanced incoming mail settings on your iPhone and ensure that the following settings are in place:
- Incoming Uses SSL: OFF
- Authentication: Password
- IMAP Path Prefix: INBOX (Case Sensitive)
- Server Port: 143

Once this is done, restart the mail app, and return back to the Advanced incoming mail settings, you will then be able to select the Drafts, Sent, and Trash folder on the server.

So they are giving the same advice. I will delete my mail account now and set it up again to test it.... standby for more...

You are correct, using IMAP I cannot get the sent items to store correctly either. I've also tested this with Enhanced email, doesnt work there either.

It works fine with my own mail server using IMAP, which is a Kerio server, it also works fine with Microsoft servers, so there is a problem, but the question is, who has the problem?

My email hosts server, is not an exchange server, I think it's Linux based.

The problem would seem to be in the Android core, or with the way the server is handling it. Saying that, I could get it to work on my Iphone.
