Help Sony Xperia S HDMI question...

base1268

Lurker
I just arrived into the 21st century and bought myself a 1920x1080p 24" HDTV... yeah it's small but I live in a small space and everything is relative ... right..?

So... last night I thought I'd pull out the dusty HDMI cable from my 15 mth old Xperia S box and try out hookin up the phone to the TV.

The TV launcher app kicks in and away I go.... but.....

.... if I play any of the vids I recorded with the HD video recorder on the phone they look stunning.... same for stills shots.

However... if I launch the BBC iplayer even tho the picture is stunningly crisp on the phone it's disappointingly mega pixelated on the TV.

Can anyone tell me why...?... and if I can fix it...?... or is it because I have the mobile version of iplayer there's less information to expand

And would it make any difference if I purchase a MHL to HDMI adapter (IM750)... ?

Cheers.................

You hit the nail on the head with "because I have the mobile version of iplayer there's less information to expand". Unfortunately there is no way around this I am aware of.

Yeah... the more I thought about it the more it made sense that it's the mobile version of iplayer... I thought I was gonna be clever and save having to buy a box that plugs into my TV for iplayer... it's not a 'smart' TV so doesn't have internet capability built in.

So what exactly is a MHL to HDMI adapter for if not to ensure 'Mobile High-Definition Link' between device and HDTV screen...?

That is exactly what it is for, however if the content being transferred is HD in the first place the phone/cable can not make it so with sever loss of quality as you have experienced.

Hi, this is unrelated but I am not able to post a new thread yet.

Hi, my xperia s decided to stop displaying anything on its screen a couple of days ago (the phone still lights up, just no display of words, apps etc). I have been quoted

The only real problem with 2 dimensional cyber space is people don't get the vocal inflection.... and therefore have no sense of humour....

That's the price of anonymity.... bring on the video forums... :p

That was meant in jest?
I think you need to work on your cyber emotional conveyance system. ;P
