As revealed in a Phandroid news article posted yesterday, Sony finally announced the successor to the Z3 at an event in Japan. The form factor is very similar to previous Z-series handsets, featuring a metal frame supporting a 5.2" 1920 x 1080 display in a body measuring 146 x 72 x 6.9mm and weighing 144g. Other headline features are:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SOC
20.7MP Exmor RS main camera + 5.1MP front camera
3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and (despite rumours) microSD support
Full dust/waterproofing to IP65/68 retained (again contrary to rumours)

No release date is yet available other than "summer" for the Japanese market.

Sony today (May 26 2015) announced that this handset will be marketed as the Z3+ globally i.e. outside Japan, and will be available "from June 2015". (Sony press release)

The above specs are confirmed, although available RAM is listed as "up to 32GB flash memory". Does this mean two versions, 16GB or 32GB? Who knows?

Additional features now known are an uncapped USB/charging port, Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support, LTE Cat 6 (300Mbps) and WiFi MIMO support.
