Soon to be a tablet owner...

I have my laptop up for sale locally and intend on getting the Asus Transformer or the Acer equivilent. Right now the difference locally is $50 CDN, the Asus being the pricier of the two. Played with the units at a few stores now and it does what I need.

The 7" Acer is also very attractive and the only thing potentially holding me back is the resolution; 1024x600 for web browsing is a little tight. I do like the size of the A100 though and it is $100 CDN less than the 10" version.

Just trying to weight out what I need more and get some opinions from owners! ;)

This will be me soon (no need for a physical keyboard ;-)

Personally, I don't think tablets are developed enough to completely replace laptops due to small screen sizes and limited compared performance. But since you DO want to replace it, I suggest getting the Transformer since you can get a full keyboard for it (always great to have the option whether you want it or not). However, if you do decide to get the transformer, wait until the Asus eee pad Transformer prime to come out. The processor in that (Tegra 3) is more up to par with low-mid performance laptops than the current one (Tegra 2).

I should mention what I intend to use the device for. Mainly surfing, irc, reading, note taking, light gaming, storing my files to view and send. Basic stuff as I have a desktop to edit office docs if needed. Price is an issue, so whatever the laptop sells for + $100 is what I have as a budget. As nice as the Prime is, its not going to happen.

Oh, well I didn't mean laptops in general. I meant that if one has a tablet they should have a Windows computer of some sorts. Again, that is only my opinion. You said the Prime is out of your range at $500? I am not completely sure what your price range is, but it sounds like it's between $250 and $350? Well you can try to do 2 things.
1. Go to Best Buy on Black Friday and buy the current gen transformer for $250 ($350 with the dock) or
2. If you can't do that, wait until the end of this year and into next year. As new Tegra 3 tablets come out, the Tegra 2s will be a lot cheaper.

I only say Transformer because it is the best Android Tablet out there in this gen of tablets according to all of the reviews I have read. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is also a good tablet.
