Root Sorry - another DefroST issue...

rowlers

Android Enthusiast
From the research I've done, recommendations followed etc.. Defrost is supposed to be one of the most stable ROMs going.
Why then am I having a variety of issues with it?
Camera FCs
Phone Freezes, needing a battery pull.
reboots, when dialing up answerphone...
Quadrant of anything between 1500-1800 so its fairly quick, but I'd rather it be stable...
I'm currently on a 6.0c SVS+BFS 1190MHZ (max voltage of 1300mv)
I did try a 6.1se SVS+BFS 1190MHZ (max 1300mv) and thouch screen didn't works so had to reboot to recovery and flash the 6.0c kernel.
Is it just a case of playing about until I find a kernal that suits me and the
phone hardware?
Its just I didn't have any of these issues with LeeDroid...

cheers

currently it is ondemand max 1152, min 245, with a screen off profile, on powersave max 422 & 245min

Try ondemand screen off min and max 245. Changing governers can be slow, especially powersave.

Maybe even try vork kernel too

it is set as you suggest. Whats your battery life like? I'm dropping to about 25% by the time I get home from work (pulled from charging at about 6am). It is getting used for an hour music at lunch time, and probably an hours browsing throughout the day, mail, a bit of ebay, so I don't think its too bad...

Another thing...
It seems to run very hot! CPU temp is at 34.8dC, and its doing nothing but sitting charging?

just rebooted again - this is ridiculous, rapidly loosing patience with Defrost....

I think it is running too hot (now at 35.1C), causing the reboots/freezing.
I'm going to try a lower voltage kernel...?

There's no CPU temp sensor. Only battery so that's nothing to worry about, especially since you're charging it.

You can try a lower voltage but this only really affects bottom end frequency

If you get reboots when phone us idle, voltage too low. Reboots when active, clock too high.

CPUs can take well over 40 c.

It may just be that its not agreeing with your phone though. You may have to try something else.

Is also suggest posting I'm the defrost thread on xda

I've got the same battery drain problem since installing Defrost..

I've now changed SetCPU to max 1113 & min 245 (on Demand) and a "screen off" profile to max/min 245

Will let you know how I get on!

The only other problem I get is that LP+ sometimes freezes

What battery drain problem? The 6.1 kernel is worse for battery than 6.0c but wouldn't say there's a battery drain problem.

Rowlers stats are good.

I can get from bed to bed in q day without charge, about 1.5 hours web, quick call or two, sms and emails

For lp, go to settings, cyanogen, performance, switch up vmheap a level and lock home in memory

Ahhh just going off the cpu temp in SetCPU. What is another good ROM to try then?
voltage can't be to low, as its a 1275mv kernel? and it still reboots with 998 clock...
I like the ROM too....

That's the max voltage. Voltage is only an issue if reboots whilst screen off.

If you're rebooting at 998, that's well dodgy

Vork kernel definitely works with defrost do flash that before binning the Rom as a last ditched effort.

Other aosp roms are miui, cyanogen and then the 2 gingerbread roms

Put it this way,

my phone goes on charge at about midnight until 7:30am and from then on I have 3G, WiFi and GPS enabled; all my e-mail accounts are set up as IMAP with no polling; my actual useage tends to be about 45 mins phone calls, < 5 texts and maybe 45 mins of internet (3G).

Just before 6pm my phone died!

Running stock I'd still have 20% left at midnight.

Like I say, I have rebooted with those SetCPU settings and we'll see how we go!

B@lls to it, currently going back to LeeDroid 2.2f.
Not bother at all about Sense, just like the stability of LeeDroid.
I'll keep looking into other ROMs see if anything else take my fancy!

cheers fellas

Don't see how you'd have 20% left in any rom with 3-4 hours internet. The screen is a huge killer and there's nothing any Rom or kernel can do about that. Also goes for 3g data connections.

I wouldn't expect your phone to last as long as it does with that usage anyway, let alone still have 20% left.

So you didn't try vork then?

3/4 as in 0.75 ;)

I would have to agree with you if I was using internet 3 - 4 hours a day, but 45 mins isn't too much surely?

Nah, I've tried enough kernels me thinks.

Back to LeeDroid for now and EVERYTHING works ;)
I'm getting a few replies on XDA so what come of it, 1st couple of replies have said it sounds like I haven't wiped, but I did!

Ohhhh Haha. Good edit by the way.

No that's Shit.

For example.

Unplug at 6:45
30 mins browsing on the bus
15 minutes browsing at lunch
5-15 mins calls
20-30 sms
20 emails
30 mins browsing on the bus
15 mins quick forum checks
Bed 22:00 20-30% Left

Browsing varies, sometimes I get a bit more in, sometimes less

I use Cyanogen, but if stability is what you want try Miui, very smooooooooth. You'll need a fast memory card though.

I do travel around a lot in my locality (electrician) so it does sometimes have to search for network, although I do have T-mobile/Orange roaming enabled:D

I find that searching for networks is the biggest drain on my battery outside of games/browsing. Constant flicking from G-3G-H ruins a good percentage of battery life, happened a lot when I started in the new offices.

Now on WiFi in the office which has given me similar battery to danfrance above:D

Running Ginger Villain from RichardTrip which I find really stable with launcherpro, Tmobile/Orange roaming. Still haven't changed kernel since rooting, probably should look at it now.

Only got a class 2 atm, so I guess I'll leave MIUI for now...
Cyanogen will prob give me the same probs as defrost will it not?
Hard to say, since I don't know why you had such problems. I think I've had the camera FC twice, otherwise haven't seen any of the things you've suffered.

But as DF is CM based, there has to be a fair chance of something similar.

Well, I wiped and re-wiped, cache, ext, data as much as I could.
it looks like is has worked too!!
ROM is much more responsive to the touch, phone seems to be running cooler (it was red hot last night).
I'll see how it goes before getting too exited!

Oh, and didn't to re-install any apps, it seem once you log into the market, it automatically restores all your missing apps - sweet!
