Sorry, I just have to bitch about text input in landscape mode, it really pissesmeoff

Only lag i've experienced is in landscape mode in stock sms app. Plus random phone resets... Other than those two problems i could live with 2.1. The lag is not a problem, but midcall, and my phone decides to power cycle on it's own, couldn't be more upset. Looks like i've hung up on my caller. ME "No bro, i didn't hang up on you, i just upgraded my "smartphone" to the newest op system. FAIL!!!!

Heh, HTC finally got back with me (A week later, they must be busy for some reason ) And gave me this BS...

Dear Scott, We understand the importance of having all the information on our phones. I have tested out the landscape keyboard on the Sprint Hero in our office and do not experience any lag while typing on the keyboard. Since we are not experiencing the issue, we suggest that you clear the Cache and Data from the applications that you are noticing the lag when typing on the keyboard. You can perform this by pressing HOME > MENU > Settings > Application > Manage Application > The Application’s Name > Clear Cache > Clear Data. Please keep in mind that this will wipe the application clean. After performing this, we suggest that you soft reset your phone. A soft reset is simply taking the battery out of the phone, placing the battery back into the phone, and turning the phone back on. If this does not resolve the issue, then the only other troubleshooting step is the factory reset. However, a factory reset does erase all the information from the phone, so you would have to backup your information before performing a factory reset. To perform a factory reset, you will need to press HOME > MENU > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset. Thank you for contacting HTC. In order to help improve our service, we would like to invite you to take our Customer Satisfaction Survey located at HTC Online Survey. The issue has nothing to do with application cache. The keyboard lags everywhere. It amazes me that a smartphone such as this has issues with simple phone tools ie laggy dialer, phone, keyboard, contacts, messaging. Thats what a phone is primarily used for. I hate to say it, but the iphone has the landscape keyboard down. I find myself waiting for the keyboard to catch up in land, therefore, I don't use it. Definitely not just you though.

I can't even imagine what could cause the lag though. I have xdas keyboard and you think if they knew the culprit they could implement a fix as well, but no such dice.

Amen my friend. The only other thing I can think of is that, people just don't type fast as us, so they don't experience the lag because their typing skills are laggy in the first place. I don't see how half of the people on these forums can experience the lag while the other half doesn't. It should be straight across the board. The update that I used from the HTC website is the same as the update Joe Blow in Arkansas used as well, so why, hypothetically of course, would he experience no lag?

There IS lag with this shitty keyboard, and I wrote back to them giving them an earful about it. I will post their reply when I receive it in another weeks time.

I'm curious to hear their response :D I believe it is a case in people simply not noticing. I doubt, as you said, some people have no lag in landscape. Chances are they just type slowly.

i wanna chime in.. my landscape keyboard is rediculously slow.. i cant stand it.. i actually type faster and more correct using just one hand in portrait mode.. the landscape keyboard i am like 3 or 4 letters ahead of what is actually on the screen.. its rediculous.. that is my only complaint about this phone..

Exactly! Its a f*cking joke!

i agree. ive switched to texting in portrait with the phone keypad using T9.
the landscape qwerty is terrible for any use or application...especially the browser.

I have no lag at all in landscape, and can probably type faster than any of you. It even flys typing on this website. Which has never happened with any phone I have had.

Well good for you bro! You are one in a million, because it is blatantly obvious that the MAJORITY is experiencing this issue. How about instead of puffing your chest out, claiming you can "probably type faster than any of you", you actually add something useful to the issue. But I understand that is impossible for you.

I got my phone last tuesday (the 25th), and immediately got the 2.1 update on wednesday, so when I was trying out the phone, i realized that the landscape keyboard was really laggy, so i just learned to not use it. I've only used the portrait keyboard since i've had the phone and im already getting used to it.

but to sum that all up, I know what you mean and your problem definitely isnt unique, but in my situation, I'm really not worried about it.

I hope you get it fixed/resolved soon :)

I was referring to this stupid comment. You didn't seem to mind this one, did you?

The majority? A handful of people with the issue will complain about it, everyone else doesn't say a word. I'm on 2.1. I have no lag. I type fast.

OT- how 'bout that game last night?

We should have a type off! That would be so cool! Anyway, it is an issue. It was an issue with 1.5, it was an issue when 2.1 was leaked and ported to the hero on every single custom rom I have run (multiple) it was an issue on the leaked sprint 2.1s for the hero, and it was an issue on the official. I find it hard to believe that some phones experience virtually none of this since my phone is just awful. I can't even type landscape in the browser and if I were to type anywhere near your caliper of typing speed, :D, words would come in chunks. This is why I kinda tone down my skills a little. Eliminate the lag, and of course let you reign as the fastest typer there is..

in all seriousness tho..

I've had three phones, all HTC heros, and its been the same on each one. Every store demo I've tried is also the same. I'm not saying you guys experience no lag, however from someone who experiences it horribly it leads me to question ya know. Are you looking for the same thing as me? Do you REALLY type that fast, or do you just think so. What is "acceptable lag" to you that you simply just don't notice. These are some factors I feel play into it, cause in all honestly its hard to believe half of the HTC heros have this problem and half do not. Same firmware, same hardware, same phone.

Just to qualify what I posted above, I had lag before I turned haptic feedback off. I also don't use a task killer and am using stock 2.1. And my very first keyboard press will sometimes lag, but not any press after that one.

I also doubt the people with landscape keyboard lag are a "majority."

Typing in landscape mode is extremely frustrating/laggy for me also. It was troublesome in 1.5... and downright intolerable in 2.1. I am an extremely fast typist. With that said, I mostly notice the lag when I can get 5-8 letters tapped in before the text box even loads one letter. And sometimes it will pause on one letter for so long that it will input the long click symbol instead of the letter, as if I had long clicked on the letter, but I didn't. And if I backspace to correct the phone's error, it will not bring up the prediction words, which a lot of times results in me having to clear the whole word and start over.

I find that it moves a bit faster if I turn prediction off. But prediction is generally very accurate, and saves a lot of time when typing a lot of text.

I was really hoping this problem would be fixed. =( And if not fixed, at least not made WORSE. Lol.

I don't have any keyboard lag at all since the 2.1 switch. In fact, my keyboard works a little faster and snaps from portrait to landscape quicker too.

I use Advanced Task Killer regularly though. My Droid can accumulate a lot of open apps at one time, that would have to slow things down.

It's not really a crying and bitching thing, it's something that's a MAJOR problem. If the ONLY way we can input text on a phone is through the virtual keyboard, if the keyboard lags and locks up while it's in use, that's damned outright horrible.

I think this is just one thing that was done to give us incentive to drop this phone and get the newest one, they've made the actual phone itself next to unusable.

I was at that game. 20 rows back. As a life long Tigers fan, its makes me sick what happened!

even though the keyboard lags the popup letters, it catches everything you type. It's not a perfect phone, if it's too slow then move up to the htc evo 4g which has a processor twice as fast or get the moment with the hard keyboard.

LOL! Ok... right. What an absurd "solution". The Landscape text in 1.5 was FINE! It was FINE! Then 2.1 comes along and you can't type a f*cking thing!
