Help Sorry! The Application Launcher (process com.android.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly

This just started happening randomly and I can't figure out how to solve it... it has rendered my phone unusable. I've read some stuff about this on the forums and none of the solutions have worked.

I didn't drop or anything, it just started happening - got the first crash and now it just keeps showing this message (and every other bg thing that loads up crashes too) every time I turn it on.

Any solutions?

Could be an app stepping on the process [which it shouldn't] or some corruption has occurred. Have you installed any new apps or rooted just before this started happening?
You might want to install launcher home++ from the market which is said to work until you find a fix.
Home++ beta - Android app on AppBrain

If all else fails you may have to do a factory reset which I know you are trying to avoid and I can't promise it will fix your problem.

There's a thread on google forums of this exact issue

Tried that but no luck.

Just did a factory reset, it breaks my heart. lol. At least I am in now. So I guess this means it must have been an app! But my phone worked all day and no app updated automatically, so that really makes me confused.

Please sync lots and lots... ppppleeeaseee.

It was definitely an app. Which one we may never know :-). Could have been a ghost from an uninstall. Install lookout just to keep an eye on apps you download.

What does lookout do?

What a shame that Google doesn't sync what apps you've downloaded and let you redo that... :( I had about 140 so this would take a while. I'm weary of it happening again now too, but since I hadn't downloaded any new ones recently (or any updates) I am at a loss as to what I should avoid.

Lookout scans for any malware in the apps or on your phone. Is very non intrusive. I agree with the google sync part.

Download app brain and fast web installer. It does what google doesn't. It works just like the market place and keeps a list of apps from every phone you sync with it. You can then reinstall all your apps or even uninstall.

ARGH and now I have the problem again that caused my first reset shortly after I got my phone...the search and home buttons are completely unresponsive!! GAH.

And now after a second factory reset it is stuck on the X shape boot design.

I went via recovery to do another factory reset and it is still sticking at the X shape boot design.

Now what? Is my phone now dead forever?

Exchange the phone.

edit: leave it for a while. The X may go away.

I left it Xing for an hour before giving up. :( No idea how this happened, who would have thought a factory reset is what would kill it totally!

So sorry to hear that. Call your carrier and get a replacement.
Remember to install the apps I suggested when you get a replacement. They're quite beneficial.

I was told to go to the local authorised repair place for Samsung and they will look at it and try to fix it first. Gah.
