Help (SOS) Galaxy S3 Straight Talk Root Help

Hey! I'm new to these threads, but found a lot of the information on here helpful. I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 through Straight Talk (SCH-S968C), and they aren't updating any of their phones. This is the second phone I've bought that hasn't been updated with all the new updates. I'm in version 4.1.2. I want to Root my phone so I can get the Kit Kat update, but I want to make sure that I know what I'm doing because I don't want to brick my phone. I kinda need it. Haha. Has anybody been successful in Rooting a straighttalk phone.. or know how? I have Cydia Impactor downloaded, I just don't really know what to do. Oh! & I have no idea what any of this "root" talk means. But I'm very good at following instructions. Help please!

I have ST GALAXY S3 SCH S698C and cydia is no longer working for root. It worked on my last ST S3 . But this one has a Kernel put on after Aug 2014. Is this maybe why and if so is there another way to root this phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It says signature bugs not found. USB debug is enabled and drivers installed. I also tried towelroot and this phone is not supported yet. I really just want root access for a few apps and remove bloatware. Maybe custom roms in future when more support for phone is available. Thanks for any help.

go to Android Area51 and look in the straight talk/net10 section, find the galaxy s3 forum and you will find a thread titled "How to root sch-s968c after Aug 7 2014" detailed instructions for gaining root with a link to download the unpatched stock tar from before Aug 7, get the verizon CWM make your backup then go to XDA and find the d2vzw roms and the d2lte roms, be careful though and read all threads that discuss the patched S3 with the H2(Aug 7), the d2vzw roms seem to work better for this device but the risk is that some of these roms kill data or cell signal both and even flashing the stock H1(before Aug7) that you use to gain root won't fix it, only flashing the H2 stock tar will fix it, I'm working on getting the H2 tar so I can post it, when I find it I will post it at Android Area51 on Motorheads private server, he is a dev there that has setup a server for all users that want working links to download,

Hi any update on finding the H2 tar? I'm checking the net every day for it.
The H2 probably won't be available until someone finds how to root the H2, it is very doubtful that samsung or straight talk will ever make it available.

Is there a reason you needed it?

Hi thanks for responding. I'd like to have it because one of the d2vzw roms wiped my cell and data out. I tried to reflash the H1 tar through Odin but no luck. As noted earlier in the post, the only way to recover cell and data was the to flash the H2 tar. Otherwise, I'm stuck with a glorified mp3 player/PDA device and I would rather not be stuck with one of these. Any assistance you can provide I would greatly appreciate.
No the H2 stock isn't going to help, go to XDA Developers forums, the easiest way to get where I'm going to send you is to go to Google and type "How to root sch-s968c" in your search results you will be looking for an XDA thread with a (Q) in its name, go to that thread and go to the last page of the thread and youll see two users named canodroid15 and kenny1974, they just helped a user with your problem, quote their posts or give them a mention with the @ attached to their username, hopefully you can get your device back, before you go to the thread you need to go to settings>about phone>status and see if it still shows your IMEI, if it doesn't then don't waste your time going any further because if it doesn't show IMEI then you have erased it and it can't be restored and your device is now useless, if IMEI shows then you have a real good chance and I'm sure that canodroid15 and kenny1974 can get you going, kenny has had this problem and he can tell you how to get back, it requires you having a backup of the ROM you were on before you flashed what killed you, not the ROM you flashed but but the ROM you were on BEFORE you switched. Check your IMEI if its there go find them in the thread I named, good luck buddy.
If you quote them or put the @ on their username then they will know you are there and they'll answer, if you don't quote them or give them a mention then they may not answer.

He has the H1 tar and has already flashed it through odin, it didn't fix his problem that's why he wanted the "H2" not H1, he probably had his network settings wrong when he flashed the ROM that killed him, if its not that then he killed his IMEI, I'll give you credit for trying to help though. If you had read his reply to my post you would have seen that he tried your suggestion, don't post help to a user unless you have read his issue and what they tried or without understanding the problem or you could lead someone into a brick, BTW bigmodz54, this is N_psycho_PD_uh?, lol, I've got more than one username, this is one of them.[emoji12]

Hey, checking in on you, do you at least still have your IMEI? If you do have you gone to XDA to find your answer? If you still have IMEI then you can save your phone.

Hi,

I've flashed many a rom on tons of devices. I'm not a pro, but also am not an amateur. I still have my IMEI on the device. I'm not sure how my network settings at the time of the flash would cause the issue I have, but I'm interested if you have a theory. I followed the XDA advice from those developers, and managed to get the signal to at least show, but no 3g yet. That along with bluetooth not working seem to be the only remaining issues.
Did you just follow what they posted for the other guy with similar issues or did you try to contact them? If you put @ on their screenname when you post like this @DUDENPHX they will get a notification, I haven't had this issue so I don't know what to tell you or not.
I suggest you do the nvdatabackup like they suggest so that you protect your IMEI.
