Root SOS In need of quick detailed help

I have to send my droid x back to verizon for a new one under warranty and I don't want to lose all my apps, contacts and especially my App Data.... From what I've read I cannot do that without rooting. Which I am ready to do but I really really need a step by step specific to my phone so I don't screw anything up.

The situation: My Droid X has the newest OTA gingerbread update 4.5.602. The new phone will also this update. How do I root my phone, backup(presumably with Titanium) then restore that backedup data( especially the App Data, i.e. angry birds levels etc.) to my new Droid X?

I would really really appreciate any help on the subject matter because I have only 1 day to figure this out before my new phone is here and I have to send it back or I get charged for the new phone.

Thanks a million to anyone who can help me with a step-by-step for my situation.

Unfortunately there isn't alot you can do now that you are on stock Gingerbread as there is currently no way to root stock Gingerbread on the Droid X. I don't use titanium backup but I recall it needing root access but someone else can confirm that for you.
 
unfortunately your going to lose all data, there is no way to backup apps when your not rooted, titanium requires root, but in order to get rooted on gb you have to sbf back to froyo, and doing that will wipe all your saved games
