Prior to the update, i had different tones for my texts, and email accts. Since the update, seems i can only choose one option under notifications.

Am i missing something?

Haven't updated yet - will do that this weekend - but I think you have to go into the individual apps to select your ringtones.

When you set your notification sound in the settings, that's the default notification. As Kevin mentioned, you have to do it for each application if you want different sounds. One app that overrides the notification sound by default though is the HTC calendar.

Does anybody know how to set a ringtone/notification sound for emails? I can do it for both of my gmail accounts, but not for my other email. The only sound that I can use on my other email address is the default nofication sound.

I'm not sure of the question - the only thing using my system notification sound at this point is the stock Mail app - everything else I'm using (maybe not as much as you guys) has the app-defined custom notification sound.

Is the question how to make one of your ringtones/custom sounds the system notification?

Or - are there too many apps that rely on that (and I'm just not with what the question's about)?

I'll try to clarify a little.

For the 2 Gmail accounts I have set up for direct push, I can set separate/specific ringtones/notifications for each account.

For Text Message notifications, I can set a specific ringtone/notification for those.

For my other email that I have set up through pop mail, I can't find a way to set a specific ringtone/notification for that. The only thing it seems to be able to do is use the ringtone/notification sound set for the system notification sound.

Does that clarify what I'd like to do a little better? Basically, I'm trying to separate my notification sound for my 3rd (pop) email address from the system notification sound and I haven't figured out if that's possible. When I go into that pop email account (aol in my case) and go to the settings in that program, it just has a toggle for notifications sound to be audible or not audible.

Desktop -> Menu -> Settings -> Sound -> Notification sound

I installed Rings Extended to expand my sound menu from there - there's also the trick of putting the sound files in the right sdcard folder - but I'm way too lazy for that.

That sets the overall system notification sound.

You probably already know all of that.

Do you have more than one thing left using / needing system notification sound?

If so, I've got nothing for you here, sorry.

If, on the other hand, all that's left needing the system notification is Mail, then what's the problem?

Sorry - not trying to run you circles, just don't want to miss something simple due confusion (a near constant state for me).

I'll check out Rings Extended. Thanks for the tip on that one.

I guess, if I really wanted to, I could just set the system notification sound with the ringtone that I want for my pop mail.

I'm trying to think if there's any other function on the phone (that can't have an independent ringtone set for it) that would use the system sound notification.

Okay, so I checked out Rings Extended and that's not exactly what I was looking for. I'm not having trouble having any of my custom ringtones/sound notifications show up for selection.

My issue is setting one of those custom ringtones/notifications to be the notification sound for my mail account. As of right now, the only sound that can be connected to the mail notfiication sound is whatever is set for the system notification sound.

For me - that's a nope.

Hence, how I got here. :)

LOL...Nice. I just changed the system notification sound to the one I wanted for my pop mail emails. If there are any other functions that use it, I'll definitely chime back in.

But, I really appreciate your trying to help me figure it out EarlyMon.

Like Red Green says - we're all in this together, and I'm pulling for ya!

What's funny is, it's just a simple "You've Got Mail" notification (w/ Jennifer Love Hewitt's voice), so it'll stand out for sure if the notification goes off, but I have no emails...hahahaha.
