Root Sounds setting Force Close with Gingerbread

JCimp

Newbie
I've flashed 3 or 4 different gingerbread ROMs, including CM7 RC. They all seem to work fine, except for the sounds settings. Every time I go to Settings>Sounds, it force closes. Any ideas? I've wiped and reinstalled several times to no avail.

You wiping Dalvik cache? (advanced menu in Clockwork). I remember several people having this issue in the earlier GB but thought it had been resolved. I know this problem came up either in the CM nightlies thread or the earlier Crackflashers thread. I thought it was pinned down to a specific reason but if so, it's escaping me now unless it's the Dalvik wipe.

I don't know why, but it is now working. I've been running virtuous rom, so I backed it up, and reinstalled CM7 RC1 and the sound settings are working just fine.

I keep having the same problem. It's related to something that I've restored with Titanium Backup. I haven't had the time to methodically restore each app individually yet, but a fresh flash of CM7 and Google apps doesn't have this problem.

Yep, that's what others were reporting. Try restoring only market apps, that should do the trick. Also, use the Market Doctor (might be paid version only) to check for broken market links.

I narrowed it down a little... about as precisely as I could be bothered to, anyway.

What I did was to restore all of my apps with Titanium Backup. Then, selectively restored data for the apps that I cared about (I didn't for most). Problem solved. Sorta. Good enough for government work, anyway.
